BYC Café

thanks for the coffee Shad; it is very welcome this cold morning. Sorry to hear your doctors' surgeries are shut and that cases are coming closer. I'm sure your boiled eggs will be very much appreciated by their recipients.

I had to go to the pharmacy this morning to pick up a prescription and buy a thermometer; very reduced opening times, only one customer allowed in the shop at a time, so people queuing outside were standing 2m apart (there were instructions to this effect on a noticeboard outside). It was a 30 minute wait to get in, but my luck was in, as I got the last thermometer they had!

On another topic, I watched Contagion last night; what an amazingly topical movie from 2011! It even started with a bat... I guess the same science we're hearing about now guided the screenwriters then. They even used the phrase 'social distancing'! Besides being well acted diversion, it also gave me some sense of what's going on now behind the scenes in labs and public health organisations the world over, as well as dramatizing how easily a contagious disease can spread far and wide.

The state was on recommended 'social distancing' for the past two weeks and almost total shutdown since Sunday, but this virus has been spread around and appears to be readily transmitted. One big thing we have noticed is that folks are getting out and being physically active. We are noticing 'unknown' runners, bikers, and walkers on our rural road. On the way to the park where we walk (perhaps 2 or 3 miles) we passed at least a dozen individuals out walking or jogging. The park although uncrowded was more active than usual. It's an ill storm that brews no good - or something like that. :p I'm predicting increased birth rate and increased divorces once this mess is resolved. :hmm
Don't forget soon theft and increased violence as people get desperate.

Morning! DL, I didn't think anyone was doing routine doc visits for the time being.
Good thing we kept your chair dusted off, NFC.
Thanks for the coffee, Shad. Thick fog and cold temps here this AM and it has not started to snow yet although they are saying anywhere from 6 to 12 inches are possible.
Good thing I practiced my lizard impression/interpretation yesterday on the back porch!
Stay safe and well!

Mornin', y'all! :frow

Thanks for the coffee, Shad.

And welcome back to the gal with the "awesome sauce!"

I have just signed up with a grocery delivery service (the customer orders online, you shop and deliver to them). Have I lost my ever lovin' mind?

Sunny and heading for a high near 80° today, so I'd better get busy out there . . . :wee

Great to see you back, @N F C !! :hugs
We're back. We survived!!
I had shopping to do regardless and again got everything I needed: hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, vitamin D, our usual brand bulk pack of TP and paper towels and some more food. I'll need to go back out Sunday first thing when the stores open for fresh salad fixings but other than that, we're in great shape.

All doctors surgeries are shut here.

Our local Surgicenter has closed to all elective surgeries. Only those considered "emergency" will be allowed. My stepdad had to go into the ER the other day for nearly cutting his thumb off and they told my mom she had to wait in her car or go home as she was not allowed in the ER. I feel for the people who have more of an emergency and their loved ones are not allowed to be with them or go see them. Pretty sad times :(
