I know ya'll just love your chickens, and all the fancy breeds. I love sitting out in the run with Charlie and Henrietta.. just plain old Black Sex Link kids. Both are friendly and gentle, except when it comes to their boundary line (the fence) Today they got loads of leaves to play in.. Charlie is huge compared to my Barred Rock cockerel.

He's also very aware and always close by when Henrietta is in the 'box'.

Was some frost here and there this morning.
First time I wore my coat while choring, got the pit cover back in place.
It was funny to watch them come out of the coop and see it,
some walked right over to check it out, some paused on the ramp causing a traffic jam, they all went for the scratch pretty quickly tho.

Here's the slope of the land:

Swale/trench leads to this pipe outside the run:

Pipe is buried over the the pit:

Last part of pipe is actually plastic gutter(2 sections, one inverted over the other) that you can barely see here:

Glad that's done! Supposed to get lots of rain nest week to test it out.

Ugh, smoke is back, thick enough to block out the sunshine. Questions for the day...
How can I be freezing arse cold and coughing from the thick smoke at the same time? Is it ash or is it snow? Inquiring minds want to know!
It is weird!
It is a mix of very small and large particles.

The smallest particles pass through the blood vessels and can cause a toxic reaction in us. That can lead to chills!
