BYC Café

I see us huddled around a table telling ghost stories.
I don't have any.
I am just a hanger on.
I know!
... I'll bring muffins.

You don't believe in ghosts do you sourland?

You stand there and figure out a reason for the unexplained phenomena, don't you?
It's physics. It's always physics. or I blame it on math.

I blame a lot of things on math.

OH! I can tell you some terrifying math exam stories!
There I was in this Calculus exam... Suddenly, everything went blank.

Blank Calculus exam.... I remember a few of those!

I don't think I personally believe in ghosts. Or I guess I should say I never did, but some days I have to wonder. I tend to look for the scientific reasons why something happens. Gotta be a reasonable explanation! Kinda like Bigfoot... with so many trail cameras in the woods these days and no great Bigfoot pictures... why not?

I did visit the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (originally Weston State Hospital) a few years ago. It is said to have major hauntings! There were moments that I was truly creeped-out, but nothing definitive, ya know. I currently work in a huge building/factory that we only use about 20% of now. When I have to go to other areas of the building that are no longer in use, its creepy! There are some employees that have been here for years (I've only been here 2-1/2 years) that say there are ghosts all over the building. They think many moved in when major production ceased several years ago, but some say they have been in the basement for a lot of years!

I'll have one of those muffins please. Out here, old graves are easy to spot because people usually used a lot of rocks, digging a hole being problematic, and they don't sink down like they do in other places. I believe in the possibility of ghosts, but have never chatted with one although I have felt the presence of something - Elders? Energies?

Wrong - for a number of reasons I believe in 'other' or 'spirit' happenings that even a logical person can not deny or figure out.

Case in point: My father died 30 + years prior to my mother who died at 97 (wishing to join him every day of her life.). I was taking the funeral plans to my sister's (yep she planned her own funeral) when a vision of my father entered my head saying, "Dorothy, what took you so long." O K I'll accept that my mind created this image, but how do you explain what happens next. I arrive home and the Princess says, "Your father is waiting for your mother." When I asked for an explanation she said, "Well he appeared as a mental image to me saying 'Dorothy, what took you so long?' " When I asked her to describe him she said, "You know, like that picture of him on the farm with his pipe in his hand and that big s eating grin on his face." This was exactly the same image that appeared to me.

And then there are the angels who work overtime at protecting me, but that's another story.

Ok, that one gave me chills....

When we were little (I was maybe 4, my sister 3) we went across the country to visit my Nanna and Grandpa. It was the only time we ever met Grandpa, and he died shortly afterwards. The next time Mum and Dad flew us over there to see Nanna - maybe three years later - both my sister and I would not go down the vestibule at the side of the house. Apparently, both my sister and I had told Mum on separate occasions that Grandpa was 'down the hallway' and we were scared to go in there.

There was a second vestibule that ran across from that one, and we played with our balls in there. Whenever our balls rolled down the 'Grandpa corridor' we would call Mum to go down and get them for us. We were only little at the time, so I wonder if his spirit was down there? At the end of the corridor, my Mum now tells me is where Grandpa had 'his room' where he kept his books and clothes and personal stuff.

Can I have a chocolate muffin please? A really rich looking, decadent one?

Krista

Okay, but then they become cupcakes.
They have to have something that passes as healthy to be a muffin. I can put bran in it.

Wow, sourland. I really expected you to be a skeptic.
Bring them on!
I do not know why I love ghost stories.

I told my son that if I die before he gets out of college, the the voice in his head during exams is me, and I will be looking on the smart kid's exam paper for him.
He told me that he is the smart kid.
Then I told him just for that I was going to move his stuff all around.
I'm going to be throwing his socks into the vortex!

Okay Scott, chime in . What's your story?
Missing any socks lately?

The muffins look yummy! I'll have one of those and bring some chocolate cupcakes for Krista
700

These are chocolate with coffee icing!

I would LOVE to see the asylum! I love reading about those places, we had a state hospital up here. It was closed probably 30 years ago now. Part of it is a minimum security prison (that says something) and the rest is just falling apart. I spent eight years working in the mental health field. Some of our older persons (those who could talk) had some pretty vivid memories about that place. I'm sure there are a few tour turned souls wandering around that place.

And as much as I love math, it can't explain everything! Though some of those differential equations were pretty creepy.
