There is always something waitng Penny. Every now and then they have a go.
These days there are many more misses than hits.

My chicken get visited and spooked at least twice daily. Sometimes even up to 6 times a day, depending on the time of year and the weather.
This is also the reason why some chicken breeds like Salmon Faverolle etc. are no longer part of my flocks. Because of the innate traits of their breeds they are just not able to react in time to seek shelter.

Just today I saw the goshawk take off a little shaken after another unsuccessful attack. A bunch of crows going right after him.

Good evening Cafe.
There is a pot of tea brewing. Help yourselves.
A bit stressed here. Mel got attacked by a Goshawk and I've been wound cleaning and feeding etc. She going to be fine. The main problem is she's moulting so didn't have the speed to get away or the feather coverage that would have given her more protection. Of course, as many hens do, she's been off her food while moulting so she's in with me so I can make sure she eats properly.
Cillin broke off the end of one of his spurs and bled a fair bit so he needs extra of extra attention.
Hurry must have caught her leg in the panic and is limping. The limp isn't bad and nothing is broken but if the hawk is still here then a limping chicken is an easier option so I've needed to be outside with them a lot. Not a hardship I might add.
So, I've cleaned out all the coops and had a lot of converstations with chickens today.
That sucks, Shad. Sorry to hear about all the madness today. Glad you got to spend the day outside!

As mentioned, today is that last warmish day to enjoy. I decided to visit the lower trails as they become impassable in mid-spring.
We were enjoying them until Bella found this.

I ripped it out of the ground with the intent of throwing it out. I turned around and started heading back out and had just called Skittles to come to me too when he screamed. He had his back right foot caught in another trap.
I got him out in about 10 seconds and carried him about 1/2 mile before putting him down. He ran around without any signs of injury but I'll be keeping an eye on that foot.
Neither trap was tagged. That's illegal. The game warden will be getting a call. I think the land owners set them. They are rotten, nasty people.
It is lucky that they were not bigger traps!

Your house is becoming quite the avian hospital!
