BYC Café

Morning! Sunny and highs near 50F today but the kicker is that the night is supposed to stay above freezing so maybe we can move some of this snow downhill! I am sore from yesterday's fun and nothing but old elk bones in the ditch. I only had to cut up a couple of huge cottonwood limbs that had decided to fall into it over the winder. Then I had to get up on a 20 ft ladder and fix a piece of tin on the hay barn that had decided to 3/4ths come off and twist in the winds that didn't hit here but hit the foothills a few days ago.
Old school tin of course, so it requires a drill hole in order to not die trying to get the screw or nail into some fresh wood...
We will go back down next week and play some more and it is good to hang with my friend and give him what for, for the chaos that is not of his doing, but it makes him laugh and he loves pizza!
Enjoy the day, Cafe!

That's scary! There are some sheets of tin flapping around on some of the buildings at the old Field Day grounds where I run the dogs. I hate those.

Yeah, I don't switch over from throw to mow until grass is up to my mid calf.
I don't wait that long, mower doesn't much like tall grass, I'd have to mow it with the flail on the real tractor. Not nearly as maneuverable as the garden tractor.. Snowing 2-4" today but I probably won't mess with it.

Apparently they don't like the roosts that are 2" off the floor
No chicken does!! Always go as high as they can get.

"So, what you're telling me is, I'm six weeks older than your mother!?!"

"That's not what I meant!"
:gig:
And that makes you 6 weeks younger than DW.

Yes, and Welsummers and Vorwerk.
How do you do the Welsummers? I've read a V on the head means female, no V means male. When I got 2 in 2017 my DD temporarily named one V and one No V. Their permanent names? Veronica and Betty.

I've had that happen only the piece was on the west side of the little barn roof and blown 90° over on the east side. I got the chicken ladder and a TON of roof screws out and managed to get it back down ... and tacked down a lot of other panels and the ridge cap.

Yep it is in bad shape but no sense replacing the roof without fixing the entire building.

Wind? Did someone mention wind? My fall purchased and erected "portable garage" finally succumbed to the shifting winds. I'd post a picture but I can't use any of the menu items!!! Still!!! Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes, you are right. And the females have a very noticeable eyelid line reaching way behind their ears and the V on top of their head is dark.
Males show a more yellowish-orangy head, no V and hardly any eyelid line and their posture is more upright.

A minor dusting of white stuff on some surfaces here. I've already put the heated water bowl away, so I took out warm water this morning, and will check it when I do an egg check in an hour or so. Tomorrow morning will be chillier. :( But then it's supposed to warm up and be spring. So they say. ;)

Today will be a good day to stay inside mostly. Laundry, bake some bread, take a nap... you know, that kind of thing.

My "DD" friend gets a port put in today for chemo. 😢
I know it's scary, but the ports are better than the alternative. I hope she does well with it ♥️ Is she at a good hospital?

Good morning, cafe. Thanks for the coffee, LF!

All you easterners are getting snow and it's supposed to be 68° here today, tomorrow and 70°s this weekend. Can't say I'd trade ya, but will send you warm vibes

The four new chicks are doing well. I can't believe the difference between shipped chicks and hatched-at-home chicks. Way more friendly and openly curious, don't lose their marbles when I reach my hand in the brooder. I didn't really think much of it before, that's just the way they were. I suppose rolling around in a little box for 3 days would make anyone a little nutty.

Yeah. Grand Rapids, MI has some good care available. It helps that the DeVos and VanAndel families (founders of Amway) put mega bucks into the "medical mile."

Say what you want about (SC)Amway, those two families and the Meijers family have put a ton of money into good causes in Grand Rapids. Well, their names are on all of it too. But I'm ok with that.
