Yesterday I watched Olivia and Amelia (the buff EE in front of Olivia above) scratching around on the far side of the pen enjoying the day.
This morning Olivia was standing on one of her feet when I went out to feed them then slowly lowered herself to the ground. I went over and stroked her back and she allowed this then stood up and was mildly open mouthed breathing. I left her thinking "I'll have to get a better look at her tonight".
When I walked out the door 30 minutes later to go to work, she was laying dead in front of the run with Annie standing near her. She had a great day yesterday and didn't seem to have suffered. She would have been 5 on the 29th. She was one of the originals and was a very sweet bird.

Sorry you lost her!

There has been wave after wave of thunder, lightning, wind, deluges of rain, and even some hail to start off the show. Had a few power blips, one that shut down the tv and microwave tho the lights didn't even flicker, but stayed on.
Chicken run flooded but garage is dry.
Tornado watch in effect here until 4.

Rumbling out there, "strong storms with tornado possibilities".

We have the rumbling and rain, fortunately no tornado warnings. They are SUPER rare here.

We got about 4" of rain. There are gullies in the driveway, and part of the (county) road might wash out; we'll see when the water goes down.

They canceled the storm/tornado warnings, thank goodness. We did lose power for about two hours, but that's no biggie.

The topography of my downhill garden is different now. I think most of the garlic and multiplier onions are still there. I'll go out tomorrow when it's dried out a bit.

Some of the really good compost I put on last fall has been washed away. But I have the chicken run and a compost bin to dig out, so I can replace most of it.

We're about to get a 6 yard load of crushed concrete to spread on the washed out area of our driveway. I took a couple of ibuprofen as a pre-emptive strike against how sore I'll probably feel later.

As a "warm up," I hauled 5 loads of chicken run compost from the run to the washed out area of the garden. I'm guesstimating that each load is about 1 cu ft. I'm also guesstimating that I have 10-15 more loads there.

Compared to what other people are going through with the wicked weather, I can hardly complain if I'm sore tomorrow. I know I'm one of the lucky ones.
