We just can't throw anything away that isn't falling apart (and probably a lot of stuff that should have been thrown out long ago
Luckily, we overcame this situation a few years ago and rigorously started to get rid of the accumulations.
No more " this will come in handy one day" or "soandso gifted it to us and although it is ugly and of no use we have to keep it".

Reclaiming our space and just keeping what we really like, use and need is very liberating. It also somehow feels like letting the past go and rather focussing on the present and near future which lifts the spirit.

We are still at it and it feels great.

I'm glad you are having success with down sizing.

I'm trying to do the same thing and I'll tell you it is not an easy job.

Yes, it is not easy and one has to be aware that some days it will just not work at all as one can get lost down memory lane or feel overwhelmed.
But on other days it is very easy to let go of all the old stuff, lots of it not even your own but inherited or left by family members long gone.
