Sorry, it is a scary Paula Deen picture! he's always sending me crazy things via text.
Yes, it is easier to type on the computer. Unfortunately I'm on one for most of the day so sometimes the last thing I want to do is sit at my desk for any longer.
But here is who I am.
Anyway, my name is Kris and I live in Minnesota. I started this journey while living in California and being in an environment that really embraced recycling, interest in how food was grown and treated and the environment in general..some would call it a hippie lifestyle.

Anyway, we had to leave the state as it became too expensive to stay. I moved with my children back 'home' to Minnesota but continued to strive toward a more self-sustainable lifestyle. We started out in a small home (to get into the desired school district) and once I was able to save enough we moved to our current home with a bit more land in the back. Now we are able to start a garden and the city passed a chicken ordinance a few years back. I believe it's so important for us to learn where our food comes from so I'm very much interested in passing these traits on to my children too. We don't just talk the talk, we truly walk the walk, reclaiming water from our short showers, buying used, not just recycling but also really doing without a lot of things in the first place to prevent unnecessary waste. I'm constantly striving to produce/make as many things from home as I can - I've started small, learned how to make our own bread, and yogurt - that took a while to perfect! My daughter showed an interest in aquaponics so we have a small set up in the kitchen and are growing wheatgrass. The kids have learned how to compost and my son's (almost 17) next project will be helping me construct a chicken run. Slowly but surely we're getting there!
As you can guess, we're kind of the oddballs among our friends - my daughter (13) was in the car talking to her friend about GMOs and organic food and her friend didn't have a clue so it was fun to hear the way she explained it. They do listen to me. lol.
I have been divorced for about 5 years now but met a man out in CA who ended up leaving that warm sunny state to come here. Crazy man. He's always supported what I've done and though chickens may have not been his first choice, I think he's secretly excited about getting them. We also have two dogs who we got from a rescue organization. One was due to be put down and the other was a stray. I couldn't ask for better dogs and they truly, truly know they were saved. They are the most loving animals.

- I just realized, even our dogs are secondhand.

Ha!
I also follow the 'curly girl method' if anyone is interested in learning more and it truly works...I now have a mid-back length set of s-wave curls. It's pretty cool even though it drives me nuts sometimes when it tangles. I haven't blowdried or flat-ironed it in probably 3 years now, I think? I wish I had done this long ago!! It's unruly and crazy but my SO (significant other) loves it but he seems to love all my quirks. As the saying goes..Let your freak flag fly...
Anyway, that is me in a nutshell. And it's time to take off to help the kids make their school lunches for tomorrow (we pack every day) so I need to log off. Have a good week, all.
