Oh, she's gorgeous!  What a beautiful looking hen.  I bet you get loads of eggs from her once she has settled in.  Congrats!

@MissWiggles
, I've heard building a house can either make or break you - stay strong!

Thank you Krista!
I'm so glad my parents let me have her, especially since my mom did not let me get two Barred Rock chicks from the feed store that I wanted. She claims that I have enough chickens and that chicks are to hard.

I do not understand how anyone can get any joy from hurting another animal -people or duckling.
By that age, is it too late? Do they become psychopaths?
Keep your kids away from that thug.

I'm worried that they're becoming little psychopaths too. My kids have never been allowed to play with those kids based upon how they treat their dogs. You know what I mean?

So, I focused my kids on the surviving ducklings and taking good care of the little fluffs. I've had ducks before but never brooded them myself. So it's another adventure!

That's horrible! Poor ducklings... I think I would have called animal control or even 911 and let the officer take the kids home...
Someone should have a heads-up as this kind of stuff can be a precursor to later trouble.

Your new hen is very pretty, I agree! I have never added an older hen to my flock. They have either come here as chicks or been hatched on the place. Enjoy your new hen!

Quote: I have not brooded ducks either, but from the bits I have read on other posts, they need the b vitamins in brewers yeast.
You may want to ask someone on the duck threads.
I do remember as a child the ducks would bond very easily, so your children might not be the only ones having trouble letting go.
I bet sourland knows.
he knows a lot of stuff.

I picked up my new hen today.

I've been told she's a Red Sex Link. She's a absolute sweetie pie and I can't wait to collect eggs from her!

Have you added your pretty new hen to the count yet?

I think they do become full fledged pyschopaths.

Some years ago I saw the neighbors youngest daughter poking around with a beebee gun. When I went out later to check on a wild rabbits nest, I saw one baby dead with a round hole in the side of his head. The others were gone - who knows what "Precious Bad Seed," did to them.? I was beyond livid and wanted to show her parents but stopped. NO ONE with kids like that ever believes they did any harm., even if they see it with their own two eyes.

Thankfully they moved out soon after and live a few blocks away but, haven't run into the family again.

The hen is just beautiful, I am so jealous. Hopefully we will get to see some pictures of those baby ducks soon. I also agree about children who hurt animals. Nothing good ever comes of that and I certainly hope animal control was called. Social services might not be a bad idea either.

Today I took Tonka for a walk. We went down the alleys in the little town I live in. Past several abandoned houses that are falling down. Near one garage I saw three orange fluffy things and thought "what are a bunch of cats doing here?" They weren't cats but kits, who were absolutely darling, of course when they saw me they all headed back to safety in the garage. Continued on my wak, but went past the garage on my return trip...two were out playing. Too bad they grow up to be chicken stealing foxes! I will try to get pictures tomorrow.

Can you ever have enough chickens? Really?

Never ever! :D

Thank you! I haven't added an older hen to my flock before either, I haven't added to my flock at all actually.

Thank you!
