Bless....
I have just let the chickens (11 hens and the 1 rooster) out into our main yard to forage. They haven't been out for about a week, and have been stuck in their run with no grass all that time. Don't get me wrong, their run is massive, but it is dust central out there!
Anyway, they all came screaming up to the gate when they saw me coming and I thought "OK, out you come for a couple of hours before dusk." They have about 3 acres to meander around, loads of sweet fresh grass to pick at, and with the recent rains probably lots of yummy grubs to eat too. They have not appeared on the verandah as yet, which is their favourite spot and clear testament to the fact that pickings must be good out in the yard!
The three 'babies' (two of whom are laying now, and all of which a bigger than their Momma!) are now ranging with the rest of the flock. They still sleep separately, so they are not part of George's 'harem' yet, but they are able to follow the others around. Oh, they all look so cute with their little fuzzle-butts up in the air!
Honestly, this is why I got chickens...
