It was impressive. The other old hen I had also laid past 6 years.

If I chirp at it, I swear I can see it move a little. If it hatches, maybe I'll name it Fried or Sunny-Side-Up because the hen's name was Scrambles.

I'm really sorry to hear you lost your dear girl, cluckcluckgirl. Very sad indeed.

How exciting though that she may 'carry on' in a new chick though! Are the eggs in an incubator? Or do you have another hen wanting to take them on?

I feel at ease now because I know she's in the big coop in the sky, happy and eating worms as far as the eye can see.

The eggs are in the incubator. I'd love to go the broody hen way but my hens aren't cooperating. I love that name! Thank you!

I got some of the chicks from Sand Hill Preservation today. I am sharing an order with a neighbor and we are supposed to get more in two weeks.
So today I have 4 Blue Cochin, 6 Maraduna Basque and 4 free Partridge Barnevelders. The Buckeyes will probably not be sent and we are hoping the Icelandics will be sent next time. I said that any substitutions had to have a sense of Humor to deal with the weather and life in general up here.... They must have thought that was funny, hence the free chicks that "are more adaptable." Well, we will see and I hope they work out just fine.
