I completely understand the job thing.  This is the first year we started home schooling, and my wife not working.  All the things I used to buy for projects around the house, now have to be budgeted and most times can only buy for a portion of any one project.

I had strongly considered homeschooling. But Thing 1 is so desperate for a friend, I feel like we need to try public school first.

We were self employed but the economy stalled our business. We held on for way too many years past the giving up point, but we built it ourselves, it was ours. It was like walking away from a child. It hurt. but, we had to pay bills.

I home schooled for 8 years. It was the hardest worst best thing I ever did.
I sent him off to high school though.
The only way we were going to get him to college would be scholarships. He knew that and worked his bum off.
He did real well.

Here, they start you in remedial classes when you go back to public school. I guess they figure Mom can't do it as well.
Anyway, he had to prove himself before he could take any honors classes and then prove himself in honors before they let him take any advanced placement classes.
He still managed to graduate with a 4.49.

Home schooling can be a good thing. I never let him go forward unless I knew he knew what he was doing.
Public school is bad about moving on even if you don't get it, too bad, we are moving on.
Kids have holes in their foundations and It is difficult to go back and fill them later.

On those days when you get home and she is so frustrated she is in tears... go get her chocolate and nod sympathetically, but do not say," It's okay, I am here now,"

he regrets those words to this day.
Like his presence alone was a cure all.

I never got to use those emotes before. they are kind of scary.... but accurate.

you'd be surprised at all the activities home schoolers can get into. Learning co-ops, which is similar to public school, but different curriculum, and teaching style.

another plus for you folks in Florida, is that home school kids get to participate in UIL activities at the public schools. Think sports activities, band, theater, scholastic competitions, all of them!

Tim Tebow, was home schooled but played high school football for a public school........

we went the other way.....our kids were in public school, a great school, but like you we saw holes, and a couple of uncaring teachers, just drawing a paycheck, especially true for the jr high boy.

Also if they need any speech or occupational therapy you can get it through the public school system

My kids went to a smaller public school. There were kids that were successful and went to MIT and kids that are probably in jail or not doing well. Just keep talking to them and be honest with them.

Good possibility that I'll be losing my job within the next 6 months... still can't teach hubby to budget.

My kids went to a smaller public school.  There were kids that were successful and went to MIT and kids that are probably in jail or not doing well.   Just keep talking to them and be honest with them. 

It will be a smaller school, I think it has less then 200 kids k through 12. But they keep consolidating. Word came down they are not going to consolidate this year, but who knows.

Well aren't you sweet. Accounting jobs aren't too hard to find here, IF I decide I still want to work. Good-paying accounting jobs are a different story.
