BYC Café

Congrats on the new little one, Margie! Eagerly awaiting baby pictures!

And hey, what's a day without a little drama, right? Just heard a couple of bangs and the power has gone off - guess we have a blown transformer in the neighborhood. Ah, well, better see what I can get done without power for the next couple of hours, I guess.

Congrats!
Morning Cafe! Thanks for the coffee. Guess what? I am getting a new grandbaby today. My DIL is heading off to the hospital as we speak.... very excited to meet this little one. She is supposed to be a girl, but we will just wait and see what pops out! LOL!
DS$ has his final XC meet and then off to wrestling so another late night, way past chicken bedtime.
Till then......

Eeek, hope it doesn't stay out long. Do you have a generator?

Hope they fix it soon and your food in the fridge survives!

Storm power outage plan without the high wind?
It is/would be nice to know that all will be back to right in just a couple of hours when the power goes out.
Hope that your cough is better now!

Well, that wasn't too bad. I can't believe they could replace a transformer that fast; I suspect that some sort of re-routing around the problem must have been done. But whatever they did and however they did it, you don't realize just how much you take electricity for granted until it doesn't work, do you?

Yes, we have a generator; it sits in the pump house and its most critical job is to run the pump. It can be a bear to start sometimes. Hubby bought it after hurricane Fran, and there have been many times since that we have been glad to have it. He has thought about replacing it, but power outages are not all that frequent here (can you call that a benefit of living in a hurricane prone area?!) and usually get dealt with expeditiously (now, there's a $10 word for ya!). But yes, Scott, that's how I look at it; a little "hurricane preparedness drill" to remind us to at least do a mental review of the things we might need to do in the event of an extended outage (which, let's face it, is a "when" not an "if" around here). With Fran, it was 10 days. As awful as Floyd was, we only lost power for a couple of days; when I told a power company employee how impressed I was, she remarked simply, "we've learned a few things since Fran."

Congrats!

Oh no, never a good feeling - hope it isn't off too long, always seems to happen at the worst possible times.

Google is my best friend when it comes to finding parts and a parts catalog for things that are older then my Grandbabies.
Growing up in a farm family where if 'it' broke you fixed 'it' or did without 'it'. Trips to town happened once a week, and Grandpa didn't believe in spending money willy-nilly on anything new if the old item could reasonably be fixed. Nowadays alot of things do not have any repairability at all. I tried to raise handy DD's and am working on the Grandbabies.

Yes chickens can get ticks. Do a search on ticks in the box at the top of most any page on BYC.

Edit to add Both coffee pots are ready, and I'm making a new strong pot.

Thanks, I'll do that. Now I'm more concerned about one little one that's kind of shaking her head/sneezing/runny nose? :(

Might have to take her to a chicken vet or maybe simply clean out the run? Right now the cover is just dirt and chicken stuff, feathers, poop, etc. shavings down below it, It's all kinda mixed in and supposed to break down but should probably put some fresh dirt or something on top. The dust is probably bad. They also wipe their beaks on the ground to clean them even though they could do that on the coop, the outside perches, the bricks I've given them, etc? They all seem healthy otherwise and most are laying so I'm sure maybe she just got some dust up her beak? We'll see. It's only recent

Anyhow, we actually have some babies here too, though they're in OH so I haven't met them. My 2 cousins (sisters) were both pregnant and just had their babies this weekend, the 17th and the 18th, respectively. Just made the different birthdays, she had it at like 11:30pm lol

Anyway, it's Jenny's first and they didn't know the sex. It's a girl, Charlotte Dawn, and it's Kirstin's third and they knew the sex. Also a girl, their first girl. I think her kids are 4 and almost 2? Both boys, Grayson and Everett. So they have a little baby sister <3 Kirstin was actually supposed to have a c section today but then she went into labor visiting Jenny and had it early LOL same hospital and doctor and room's next to each other. Jenny and Jacob just recently bought a house to and it happens to be I think 7 minutes down the street? Or some similar close thing. So rather than cousins, I think these 2 will be more like sisters <3 Jenny and Jake have known each other/dating? Since high school and got married a couple years ago so it's really cute, I'm happy for them. There are loads of pics on FB and I took screenshots to show my best friend but I won't bore you with all the pictures LOL but I will find some to share.
