BYC Café

It has been a busy and mildly stressful evening here. Mid-way through chores My dear Granddaughter starts yelling bloody-blue-murder about something in one of my back bird pens.
I get there and find out it's at least 2 'coons (she says 4) one was in the pen and the other was coming around the far side.
I only had my trusty C02 BB squirrel pistol on me, several BB's later both 'coons have ran away into the woods.
Filled in the low spot under the chain-link fencing with brick and I am leaving the backyard lights on for the night.
No birds lost so far, but it still early, we will see how this plays out. How good are my pens, The only 2 birds lost in several years were due to a snake.

Wow, glad your little gal spotted that when she did! Four 'coons could have made quite a dent, I'm sure. But now that they know there is/was a way in, they'll try even harder. Hope your quick patch keeps 'em out!

Good no dead birds Monday Morning, Café

I guess that getting a few BB's into a couple of half grown 'coon's was enough to send them on down the creek.
I did set a live trap, it still has cat food bait in it, no new dig marks, and no dead birds that I could see at 0510 this fine morning.
Both pots of Coffee is ready and more in the works.
Have a good day people!

Wow Scott. Glad your granddaughter saw those coons. I hope you don't lose any birds. I found some scratch marks by one of my pens the other day, but luckily haven't lost any either. I guess the food in the woods is getting more scarce. We all need to buckle up tight.

I'll have some of that coffee please. Busy week ahead...

Good Morning WVC,

Matthew was the last rain to speak of for us, the creek behind us is pretty much dried up, and I'm getting alot of field mice in the bird pens earlier then normal.
So yes it a bad year for critters, hoping this not the start of trouble.

Good Morning everybody! Hope everyone survived the Thanksgiving holiday. Scott, good thing you had theBB gun. I have only seen the coons on the side of the road. They are very dead and for some reason the last couple of weeks there seems to be an inordinate amount on the side of the road.

I have returned from my five days of feasting extravaganza. We had a great time, got a bunch of our shopping done, went to the outlet mall in Kenosha (on Black Friday -NEVER AGAIN), and met my DDs boyfriend's parents.

The dogs are happy to be home from "jail" and have taken up residence on the couch. Dad made them special bones last night, which might have helped.

Today, the cookie baking begins! And DH bought my Christmas gift and I don't even have to wait until Christmas to use it!
