BYC Café

I've got my coffee in hand

It is raining, raining, raining (rain warning in place). And there's plenty of snow on the ground so I expect everything is going to be rather flooded. But oh man did I love how the air didn't hurt my face this morning. I know it's not spring yet, but I'm ok with this teaser. Though having snow on the ground would make hauling sap out of the bush easier.

They call it a Sallander. Bunny Lady told me. The girl i bought it from said it was grey.

"Grey" is only a color in certain breeds, and it doesn't look like that:

Light Gray Flemish Giant

I wasn't sure from the picture, but if your rabbit is shades of gray, with blue-gray eyes, it's a Blue Sallander. It's what I call a "whoops!" color, because it isn't showable, and will probably result in a bunch of other hard-to-identify and unshowable colors when bred to just about anything. It is pretty, though, isn't it?

Yes and i don't care about showing. Too busy and i did that with dogs. Too much politics in conformation. I did enjoy obedience though and so did the dogs.

You are off your rocker if you need anymore rabbits :gig
Yes, i was stuck on the rocker in FL due to depression but now i am off of it because i threw it out. It was an old ugly recliner rocker.

Have you actually been to a rabbit show? It's been a while since I've gone to one (time and money constraints), but unless things have changed dramatically, it's a whole different world from dog shows. People who have done both tell me it's like a breath of fresh air.

If you're interested, there's going to be a major show (state convention, I think) in Greensboro March 17-18. If you are used to dog shows, you might walk in and say, "am I even in the right place??"

I mentioned "showable," because when selling rabbits, you have to think about the possibility that a potential buyer may want to show, or breed for show. Showable rabbits are worth more, especially if they come with pedigrees. Knowing what color is showable and what isn't is the first layer in evaluating a rabbit; one of the first questions a breeding neophyte will ask is, "what can I breed to this to get showable colors?" I remember an article a friend of mine wrote for a breed publication on the subject; rather than go over the "undesirable" possibilities of some combinations, she simply wrote things like "Chestnut x Smoke Pearl = DON'T DO THIS!"
