That is one thing I miss about the flowers in Michigan, the smell! I love Lilac bushes but they will not grow here. I was told mountain laurel but most of the flowers here are for looking not smelling. I hope that is not true.

I have a dwarf lilac that survived winter. Looking forward to blossoms!

I put a small amount of water in with her that has vitamins and electrolytes in it. She still apears to have trouble with the one leg, but I think we are going to make her a chicken chair. I even noticed her start to try and preen this morning.

And with your idea Ron, would it be awful of me to use a deviled egg platter to lay the eggs on for hatching? or should they be upright for the zip? I have been told that the platter is a morally wrong idea. I think my loved ones are thinking like humans! I think the platter would stop the *bowling for siblings* once the chicks start hatching.?? Any thoughts?

I bought hatching trays and use them mostly now. They are plastic and are dishwasher safe.

Cut down egg cartons are very good too. You cut the top and bottoms to make them lower and to allow for air flow.

You know there are lilacs growing in Nova Scotia. Pretty cold there!

I don't think so. There are plenty of things that smell good in the southwest. Might be something you have to acquire though.

We can grow most flowers here roses thrive admit I had never heard of
4 o clock or moss wouldn't advise smoking it on the level of nightshade we tore
one of those out here after we moved in

The dessert willow (shrubby tree) is really nice, as is the Mexican plumb (another shrubby tree).

my favorite shrubs on that list are the fragrant mimosa, mountain sage, and Texas mock orange. But roses too!

my favorite smaller perennials from that list are beebalm, Blackfoot daisy, phlox, and rain-lily.

good stuff!

you are in an excellent location for rose growing. You could do a huge selection of fragrant roses.

My grandma has 4 Oclocks and they were pretty BUT, then the warning came out that the seeds were poisonous. Funny thing is, I doubt any kids went around eating them when I was young. I know I never had the inclination. My grandma always let me harvest the seeds for her, and she'd replant them the next year.

Moss roses aren't roses at all but, have rather succulent stems/leaves and are great low growing bloomers. They come in many colors.
