My brother had the first and second(required) Shindrix shots. He has type 1 diabetes, with it's usual compliment of side issues. Also had a quadruple by-pass several years ago,. Has an insulin pump, defib & pacemaker installed. I don't know how they can cram that into someone's chest.

BTW he's had shingles twice and was more than happy to get the shots. :fl Hope they fulfill the promise.

For all tense and purposes, the breaks have healed but still can not put much weight on my leg, too painful.

The back x-rays showed normal space between the disc's, cartilage was good. The doc thought that it might be the cause of so much pain....couldn't see anything out of normal.

Both the doc and the PT said the same thing, that it was the soft tissues that are trying to adjust/ heal due to the hardware that's sticking out of the bone, it's rubbing against the screw heads and aggrevating the tissues and causing the pain. Plus all the scar tissue is going to take time to heal. They both thought that it might be stress fractures causing the pain but that isn't the case.

Told me to put as much weight on it as I can stand....here's ya bill, I'll see ya in February for another follow up.
Also said if anything changes between now and then, to call him on his cell phone and he'd meet me at his office.

@007Sean, is all of the 'hardware' permanent or can it be removed at some point ?
Permanent. :( a titanium rod and lag screw, and an adjustment screw on top of the rod, an another small screw at the knee to hold the rod in place. The screw head diameters are 3/8" and 1/2" and stick out about a 1/2" from the bone.

To quote 'Al' , "That sucks rocks." I'm not quite sure what that means, but I know it's not good just by the situations where 'Al' has used it.
Yep, but I look on the bright side...I open automatic gates/doors, set off metal detectors, and have an excuse not to do something.
Went through a metal detector the other day. Pulled me aside, took out the wand and I set it off before it even got close :lau kept telling me to empty my pockets, duh, they are empty....then I told him to 'wand' my lower leg...uh, no pockets down there Einstein! :gig

Not funny Sour or Sean. X-rays are not our friend. I have gotten a load of them since my sister developed breast cancer at 35 or 36. Hers was a rare type.

My mother got estrogen dependent breast cancer at 65 - don't 'get' that because she was well past menopause - so loss of calcium. Refused chemo & radiation even though it had spread to nodes. Got recurrence 11 years later and died.

Don't remember what my sister was treated with .She did have surgery. Then she developed overactive thyroid. Didn't want any more surgery so had radiation to knock out thyroid and on thyroid supplements since then.

Because of sister got first mam. about 31 or so. Then after 40 had them every two years, then later every year. They also do extra x-rays "just because" mine do not cover the whole glass platform. Female techs at least know what torture it can be and are very apologetic. They are just doing their job.:barnie
