Ohhhh, which thread is your other half in?Good morning Cafe! Thanks Shad and Sean, donuts and coffee really hit the spot!
Thanks to everyone who greeted my sweet hubs over on the new member intro forum! He really got a kick out of it! He has long been wondering why I sit and snicker when I'm on here, so I got him to join so he could see for himself. Also he might now realize what kind of medical emergencies could happen to our birds, and how to help me prepare for them.

I've got to say this and after I'll shut up.Oh man, I wish I had read this earlier! I just sent a letter to a breeder about the Chattahoochee valley poultry show requesting info about whether the birds were vaccinated! So it's safe to buy birds from poultry shows with a reasonable expectation that they wont introduce diseases into my hatchery flock?
No worries, girlfriend!Sorry Becca, didn't know you were here to answer Shad's question.
That sounds like a better option ,really.I've got to say this and after I'll shut up.
I really wouldn't buy a fowl from a poultry show. The places are notorious for spreading diseases for obvious reasons, close proximity of fowl, lots of handling, and people with poultry visiting. It is about the highest risk fowl purchase scenario there is.
Have a look around locally. Check out your local farms where you can see if the flock looks healthy and cared for.
I don't know if I should tell you that them letting others come pick out birds is a biosecurity risk. That sounds like a better option ,really.
There are several people nearby that offered to let me come and pick out birds.
