Do you think it would be better to shut them into the coop for a week before letting them loose in the run?

I was thinking it would help get them used to the coop as well as give me a chance to do a thorough fence check on the run. The coop I have does have a little enclosed run with it that they could use for exercise, but I usually leave the door open so the girls can come and go as they please. I could just leave it shut for a week instead. I sold my adult chickens so the chicks will be the only ones in the coop now.
Three days of coop lockdown will do it usually. They will figure it out on their own though but it usually takes a bit longer and with little ones, you often have to move them into the coop at night

Awww Becca.:hugs
Lucky having a University clinic close enough to go to.
It used to annoy me how easily one of those clucking feather dusters could ruin a day when they are sick.
What halfwit said keeping chickens was easy and fun........:hmm
Thanks for the kind words Shad. She is hanging in there, but its gonna be a long 10 days, we get spattered with sticky white droplets every time we give the oral meds. Hubs has a "chicken shirt" he changes into for holding her.
Thanks Becca. My two favorites. I know you're not supposed to have favorites but those two were just amazing. They carved big holes in my heart when they left me.

I'm very depressed this morning. I went out to tend to the flock and my little male blue Ameraucana chick was dead. Another chick isn't looking too good either. Yesterday the little male was very lethargic and I perked him right up with a bit of Poultry Nutri-drench and he was tearing around the brooder drinking and eating with the rest of them. It's so sad to find one dead. And I had one dead in the box when they were delivered.
Some moron didn't put a heat pack in with them. They were way too cold when I picked them up. So now I've lost two and another is struggling. All because someone treated live babies like inanimate objects and neglected their needs. I get the hatcheries are busy this time of year but I can't forgive this. This is my first time experiencing a dead chick. I'm just out of sorts.

I hope everyone else has a nice day.
Oh no! I hate it for you Tonya.:hugs It sure does take the joy out of having the babies to raise. The worrying is so stressful and sad. I will keep you in my prayers and send love, light, and healing energy to you and your little ones:love

I'm sure you are contacting the hatchery, and I'm sure they will offer to replace the chicks, but I also know that's kinda '.not the point'.:rant

Good morning Cafe, I just made a fresh pot of coffee if anyone would care for some!

So sorry to hear you've had another loss Dobie :hugs

Hi Laurie, welcome to the Cafe! Help yourself to a cup of coffee :frow
Thanks Debby, I appreciate you thinking about us. I'm waiting for the Valbazen wormer that I ordered last week. Hopefully every one will be well enough to deworm next week. Except Peekaboo of course.

I've lost her. :(

B vitamins help stimulate appetite. Hope she does well.
Thanks Cappy! Not sure how well it would work with the very slow crop. She is eating some, just super picky. Will eat canned corn, grapes, etc. Just not liking the crumbles, even soaked. The vet student that calls me said as long as the poops are improving and she's still pooping a sufficient amount we are gaining ground.

Not sure who won the last round of "give Peekaboo her clavamox" ...
