They actually don't let them run free. They just keep taking too many chances by opening the gate to let them get in the truck and the dogs take off at the first distraction.
After they killed my chicken, we haven't had any more issues. I swear I could beat them to death with a shovel if they ever came back on my property to attack one of my animals.

Oh wow that’s terrible!! That’s almost just as bad or worse cause they clearly aren’t very trained or bonded to them aha usually shepherds love staying near their people. Wonder if they’re treating them right. :/ do you have a gun? I’d probably just shoot them if they ever came back ha

They love them. Their dogs are not properly disciplined and literally get away with murder.

I've been bit a couple times by German Shepherds. I don't hold it against the breed. I don't even hold it against the dogs that did it. GS do not board well, especially for extended periods. The confinement & lack of work makes them crazy.

I have a niece who has a GS from bad stock. This dog is literally psychotic, untrained, & unneutered (because they want to breed him... :rantIdiots!) :smack

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I have a next door neighbor who has the most chill GS I've ever seen in my life.

Poor dogs. :( I almost think over loving is almost worse aha so many dogs have no discipline and are so spoiled and/or get tons of treats or whatever. Usually it’s little dogs but big dogs too. Worse with big dogs cause they can be dangerous. But even with Gator, every rule I tried to impose, my dad thought was “mean” and he got away with so much and was still stealing things at 6 1/2 years old. Every pillow or stuffed animal was his. Not that he’d be aggressive about it and you could get it back but my dad just let him take whatever. And towards the end he also got fat cause he never really walked and got way too many treats and scraps and wet food. I don’t think it helped his situation. The walking was partly my fault cause he was sometimes a little dog reactive and I just stopped taking him out and then he got sick and couldn’t walk far but still. Hard to train a dog when no one else will listen aha he did listen to me though. Dogs like having rules and structure.

That’s good you don’t hold it against them! Very easy to. Friend of mine got bit by a Schipperke once and is now scared of them/doesn’t like them. I didn’t know about the boarding thing. That makes sense. They do need work. I think they probably miss their people too and/or are worried. They bond really close and are protective. Probably worried about them and anxious from that and the tight space and lack of work like you said.

And ugh that is the worst!!! I would never breed even an amazing dog cause I know there are too many unwanted dogs and not every dog is breeding worthy let alone even consider breeding a psychotic dog!! They probably don’t think he is psychotic though.... how do they justify his behavior?

Your neighbor’s dog sounds awesome though!!

Unfortunately with GSDs there are soooo many different lines and even within lines so many different temperaments so they vary quite a bit. And also most of the American ones are way too nervy (not bold, nervy as in bad nerves/nervous and lacking confidence) and unfortunately those are the ones that are usually pets and/or backyard bred  that and people blend lines and breed hard dogs like the Czech and DDR/East German lines that need strong handlers and breed them as pets or mix them with the other lines. I think they breed them for the sable coloring.

X2. Those type of people are the worst.

Dh and I went to eat late yesterday afternoon (Cracker Barrel), and on the way back I noticed a sign that said German Shepherd puppies for sale. On a whim, we stopped in. We talked with the owner for quite some time. First off, the pups are at least 5 months old, and on the skinny side, with dull coats. One of the females, she's not selling. I asked why she waited so long to start selling them. According to her, she didn't wait, but she doesn't advertise, or list them, she only puts the signs out by the road, and these are what she has left. I suspect they had parvo, and they're just getting into decent enough condition to attempt selling.

Secondly I asked about how they got along with other animals. Well, she had a cat, but the parents killed it. They've also killed other cats that have wandered on to the property, and have taught the pups this behavior. I mentioned we have 2 cats. Then she added "they're German Shepherds, so you know how that goes". I listened, without commenting, but no, I don't know how that goes. Growing up, we owned a couple good German Shepherds. They got along fine with my poodle, cats, and cockatiel. I've heard, and seen a lot of ads complaining about this breed not getting along with other animals. Maybe it has to do with us raising ours with other animals, or they were of a better temperament, and disposition, but neither of my German Shepherds had problems with other animals. In fact, they were a herding dog, so all of this high level "other animal" aggression is somewhat contrary to what their true nature should be.

Thirdly, they are not AKC registered, but NKC registered. NKC registration can be very iffy. The dad looked good, but they would not let us see the female. Too aggressive for them to control. Not exactly the temperament I'm looking for.

She was only asking $1,000.00 per pup. I'll pass.
No wonder she still has them!

Another snake broke in and ate one quail and killed another.
