Nor would I - he's a chicken, not a superhero. A bird that blindly throws himself at any threat isn't brave, it's stupid, and will be killed long before any chicks he happened to father hatch. I think a lot of people overestimate a rooster's ability to protect their flocks; sometimes, sounding the alarm while heading for cover is the only smart thing to do.

Hens are smaller, quicker, and generally less noticeable than roosters. I suspect that a lot of the roo's that have been credited as dying "nobly protecting their flocks" were simply easier for the predator to catch.
Definitely. The only time I've seen a rooster here actually attack a predator is when this particular rooster saw the hawk on top of the hen. I have my theories about that.

Only one chicken here tonight and that's little miss neurological.
I've kind of fallen in love with her. She's so tiny yet so brave. She fits in the palm of my hand. She never fusses when I pick her up in the evening from the floor of the coop.
She's trying to sit again.

Afternoon Cafe!

Super cool, @CapricornFarm . Glad they are all doing well.

Good news about getting your path weeded, @penny1960 !

Went home after work last night and got the lawn mowed. I was out happily mulching my garden and my dopey girl wanders up to the fence:

Covered in muck! :he I'd mowed this weed this weekend and bagged it and tossed it into the alleyway to dry out. The stickiest most gooey grossness and of course she finds it. So she got the hose (which she hates) and we walked down to the pond to swim off the rest, haha. Little witch.
