I hope you won't think me rude. I only write this in case you don't know. It is better not to hold a chick like that. There is a danger of shoulder dislocation and inadvertently crushing a rib. You won't even know you've done it.
The best way is to allow the chick to sit on your palm, with its feet actually on your palm. You can cover it's wings gently with your other hand.

No chicks were hurt taking this photo, but thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. I wasn't applying pressure in any of the wrong spots or applying any at all. I've been holding chicks like this for 5+ years and I've never had anyone mention this.

There's no possible way to get a pic of a birds chest holding it in your palm from my experience. If you know a way let me know.

I know, I know I shouldn't let them get away with it.
They come down to the house shortly after I let them out in the morning. When I've finished the morning rounds they are waiting in a bush opposite the door. As soon as I open the door for the day they're in! They want breakfast basically. They are still not large enough or brave enough to compete with the adults and having only recently been left to their own devises by mother (Mel) they are used to waiter service.
They go back out after breakfast and wait for Tribe 1 to come down from the sheep field.
When Tribe 1 comes to the house these three make a B line for the chair. They don't get pushed about up there.
If I had a spare coop these three and possibly Treacle and Hurry would form a new tribe.
I had a bad attack of the cutes and took the picture.

There's no possible way to get a pic of a birds chest holding it in your palm from my experience. If you know a way let me know.

I appreciate your problem.
What I do is place the chick on a surface high enough for me to look under neath it while it stands and then with one finger tilt its head gently back. For a moment the chest is on show and I take the shot with the other hand.

If I hold these in my palm, they jump they're lunatics. Must get it from their father! He was a lunatic when he was younger too.

Afternoon, all! Winter storm warning starts tonight. Sounds like it's headed for Debby and Margie, as well. Although, if you've got two feet, Margie, I think you're already well in it! Stay warm!
The drive home last night started as a white out blizzard, but cleared up the farther south I traveled.

My first Thanksgiving chick hatched today. Only 3 more eggs to go. Tolbunt Polish. It was still damp when I looked this morning.

We've been in it since yesterday morning around 10am. And the snow is still falling.
