DH and I would always buy a coveted tool as a joined Christmas gift to ourselves. We have a nice Dewalt table saw, a compound miter Hitachi chop saw, a wet compound sliding saw for cutting tile and we bought the Dewalt pancake compressor and some finish nailer guns at a Christmas auction one year. :love
Well now yer talking.:D

We need to get some power tools because we are always building something and I always borrow my dad's.

The day I bought us a power drill was the best day ever. I use it all the time now!

We need a circular saw

Looks like they've selected someone else to adopt the dog I applied for. I guess it wasn't meant to be.
There will be another. Maybe he wasn't a perfect fit for your family.

I like choosing my own dogs. When I go to shelters I'll walk through and see which dog is most interested in us. When we choose puppies we sit on the floor and see which one comes to us. Jolene the littlest one came right to me and that's when I knew I wanted her.

These days it would be difficult to cope with all the religions in the extended family anyway.
It's different when people have children. It would be a bit harsh to not do whatever was tradition where you lived. My niece and nephew were a bit shocked here when others didn't really do Christmas. Three Kings day is the main festival here.
I do think in general the scaling back of the gifts and a greater concentration on what the festival is supposed to be about is a good idea whatever ones culture/religion.
I agree. My husbands family is religious, mine is not. We do not practice, as far as going to church, and we tend to have to agree to disagree on many religious beliefs. But that's okay, too :)

I like Christmas, decorations, gift giving/getting and the family time. It's just that sometimes it's all a bit much. We started our own family tradition of the "12 days of Christmas". We'd start opening gifts (whenever we decided we wanted to) by playing board/card/dice games with the boys and whoever won got to open. It's pretty fun!
