BYC Café

Morning! Great pics, Meg! I am glad Chewy came through for you.
It is 15F and breezy with sunshine. I did not see the sunrise here so I am glad to see the very pretty one in TX!
DL, you should greet people like that and see what they say. DD, enjoy the movie!
Thanks for the coffee and have a great day!

You bet! And I have another for you :clap
Would that be a yak?

Do I get in the cold club if I mention it was minus 2 centigrade here last night?
You bet!! Only 1 degree F warmer than here though that 27°F at 8 AM was our high for the day. Supposed to bottom out about 12°F from 1 AM to 7 AM then slowly warm to a high of 27°F at 4 PM tomorrow.

I wasn't up early enough to see the sunrise here.
Sunrise? What is sunrise? Freezing rain overnight and this morning, now in an almost ground level cloud. We should get a sunrise tomorrow though.

Good afternoon, Cafe! Made a fresh pot if anyone had a hankering :) Also, wanted to share this picture:View attachment 1993659
I will share the start and story behind her, though I'm an awful story teller :p But don't have time at the moment. I told my husband she looks just like my lavender chickens and he agreed. How about that color?? :ya
She is adorable!!! :love

I think probably a Highland cow? @Meg-in-MT ??

Similar but apparently different and apparently lots of people have thought that. There’s even a thread on it right here on BYC. :D

Maybe everyone in here can help me with this question...

Can I use brown or black mulch in my chickens run? The run is 7000 sq ft I want to only put it around the coop and make a path... Even though I know the path will get spread out a bit because my chickens love kicking through stuff

Hello cafe. I hope you're all having a great day!

@DobieLover I'm following up to tell you how my experience was with slaughtering a rooster today.

My husband uses a filet knife and I asked him to tell me how hard I had to push while slicing. He said to imagine cutting through our commercial grade garden hose and he was right. I haven't got a lot of strength in my hands due to arthritis, but I could see the veins in the neck and was able to cut through the artery. There wasn't any struggling from the bird. I had his head in one hand and stretched out the neck, then sliced. I was disappointed that I couldnt cut the head off, but with practice I might be able to.

I hope that explains it sufficiently. Have a great day!

I think it's such a good idea, especially if salvaging an existing building. Having the chickens in the house here involves a lot of work. Something like your setup would be much more practical; or even something like the more traditional farmhouses here.
Maybe I should design a two story earth bermed building with a barn as the lower level.:D
Now that would be neat!
