I think it was @Meg-in-MT who asked what the white bush was in a picture I posted. I had a shocking memory fail and could only remember the Catalan name which isn't a lot of use.
The bush is a Blackthorn (Prunus Spinosa)
This is the bush and that's Treacle.

And here's a bit of folk law about the Blackthorn.

Ah, that bird is a beauty, Shadrach. Thank you for remembering. I'm off to read the link.

I think it will be a real boost for local growers, and the fracturing of global supply chains will wake people up to the incredible fragility of modern 'developed' economies. The reduction in pollution is already very obvious too, so mother nature may be another winner from all this.
It you're right it would be one of the good things to come out of this mess.
The other thing that I would hope that people learn't from this is it can all go to shit very fast.

Sour, when is your daughter supposed to hit Florida?

Sometime today. If we don't hear from her the Princess plans on texting sometime this evening. Given the current state of affairs, Lord only knows what is going on. Grand daughter (25 years old) has been staying with her 17 year old brother. We've talked with them, and all is well there.

I did good this morning. Everyone else had the same idea and the place was packed 5 minutes after opening. I bought a lot of root veggies for two different soups I make in the crock pot. I already had the meat for them in the freezer. I'll still need my salad ingredients to be fresh. And the veggies for the frittatas. I think we'll be okay.

I plan to go to our local farm store for veggie seeds on my way home.

On a related note, some butthead was photographed in the parking lot near the Sam's Club this morning trying to sell toilet paper out of the back of his SUV for about 4x what he paid for it!!
Could you post the soup recipes please DL?

Interesting read! Did you have them in Scotland and know the Scottish lore? It sounds like a portentous little bush :p My grandma was always big on holistic/naturopathic type stuff, so I like to read about what different plants "can do". Have you ever made use of the berries?

I've heard of sloe (slow) gin before. I wonder if that's from this particular tree or if the term applies to more than one thing. Now I'll have to look.
