BYC Café

I've put out an inquiry to a local avian vet asking if they offer superlorin implants to stop ovulation in hens.
I'll look into the estradiol.
I think I'm going to treat her with anti-fungals. I've order medistatin to give her orally and I'm going to pick up some miconazole cream to apply to her vent twice daily during her light suppression therapy.
You could take some swabs and have them analysed.

Hopefully they can offer some great advice.
Have you used them before?

Hasn't really been very wintery yet this season, looks like that gonna change:

Thanks for the coffee! Near 50 F up here today!
My sheep are scheduled to be shorn this Friday of course...
Friday
A chance of snow, mainly after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 26. Breezy.
I will have to see if that is still in the works and if so, definitely get some straw for the girls!
I hope the light change works for Seneca, DL!
Can you "spay" a chicken? Make her a female capon...

Good morning, cafe. Thanks for the coffee.

Glad to hear you've got a plan for Seneca, DL. Hopefully the implant is available and economic enough. Sounds like Mogwai is spunky! How is she doing?

Wishing all of you that are in the nor'easters path warmth and safety! Looks like a doozy :hmm

My 4" estimate was a little low. It's closer to 7". I shoveled the driveway and the arms and back say "27". They lie.

I'd have to get a vet on board first and have them give me the sterile swabs.

Hopefully they can offer some great advice.

Didn't even know we had an avian vet in the area. So far, I'm not impressed. They have yet to return my message.

Good question. I would not do that though. I'll have her euthanized by the neighbor if I can't handle this myself.

She actually gained 0.2 pounds. Sounds insignificant but it's going in the right direction.

That's great news! Any sign of improvement can't be bad, right?
