BYC Café

I found a potential supplier for firewood on Marketplace. I asked how long the logs were cut as my stove is very small and can only receive a 16-in log. The supplier replied with "15 to 20 ft".
What the heck did she think I meant when I asked for the log length?
What wood supplier worth their salt answers like that?!
Needless to say I will not be using that firewood supplier.
Someone who sells logs for people to buck and split themselves. Cheaper that way.
A log is a cut down tree that has been trimmed of its branches. Firewood is logs that have been bucked and split. You should have asked how long the split wood was. Did you ask if it was dry? Different price if it is green and you need to dry it before you can burn it.

16" is pretty standard since a run of 16" split wood is 4' long and 4' high. 3 of those makes a cord. I can fit 18" in my stove IF it is small diameter or the first piece I put in.

It ranged 16-18". I don't like that it isn't consistent. She says it was seasoned.
I don't want it. I'll stick with the guy I've been buying from for 4 years. He just mentioned that he was thinking of retiring so I wanted a back up.

hubby sells firewood. wood processor can be set to length. His customers want 16" mostly. Smaller stoves use 12". He charges $5 more for that because it's more work. It's a pain to readjust splitter for 1 load, then reset back to 16. Diameter of pieces depends on size of log--hubby uses a 4 way wedge

I love it when it pours before a heat wave, gets the humidity up there.<readsasfacetioussarcasm>
Oh yes, isn't it nice!? And all these cute little insects that must have been starving for soooo loooong - absolutely ravenous, poor things!

First day of 7 day heat wave wasn't too bad.
Lots of clouds, even some spits of rain early on.
Low humidity and strong breezes seemed to help the birds.
No panting and chicks were hanging in aux runs darkest corner even with some big birds in there, that was good to see.
Next 2 days are all sunny, hope that breeze keeps up.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

Yesterday got hotter than predicted. My face was red when I came in to wash up after unloading the first load of wood chips around the garden beds. I had grand plans to get another larger load after the temps dropped but by then I was done for.

My little Tonk (Sebright) aka "The Screamer" is full on broody now and got her self a complimentary ticket to the well appointed top floor crate in the run. She had lots to say about that and none of it's nice!
It's really hard to get frustrated about a bantam getting broody. They are just so darn cute about it! :love I think I'll release her 2 hours early tonight so she has to be removed from the nest again and I can record her reaction!
