BYC Café

Good morning Cafe and thanks for the coffee, HG.

The pullets and cockerel are starting to lose their baby voices. The cockerel, Acer, sounds a bit like a frog. He is the only one ATM that will eat his raisins from my hand. The prettiest sister, Dantela, is getting close. Of course, she has a hard time building up her courage when her brother zips in and takes her raisin.

I'm very surprised how soft these birds are. I've handled dozens of pullets/cockerels and I've never felt anything like this. It's almost like picking bunnies up off the boards. I wonder what that will mean for feather longevity or how well they will hold up to mating.
I think a lot of feather loss in mating has to do with the cockerel. Some of them are quite rough! Also having too many cockerels per hen is a big factor

Good morning and thanks for the hot coffee! Shorts, no, because when it is warm enough, the bugs are out and I am working with saws or some such equipment.
NFC, we have had only dustings so far but that will change on Monday. DH finished up the coldframe that we will be putting in the greenhouse to see if we can get some of the cold hardy veggies to thrive over the snowtime. Fall radishes are the test dummies and maybe some spinach. Enjoy the day, CAFE!
We have a month or so time in the spring when we have biting black gnats. They go away when temps get up to 100 though.

Dreary rainy day.....still warm enough for gloveless and jacketless chores.
Slowly ding the winterizing tasks, today will be removing fan from coop.
The fog was thick in the Valley this morning. I had to drive slower than normal to work.

So would I !!!

Hopefully everyone else was equally intelligent. Only takes one idiot to cause a big pile up.
I saw one car without headlights on and one idiot passed in the fog. I had to slow down and move to the right to avoid a head on collision.
