BYC Café

So far, we haven't really had much of a winter.
We haven't either but it started today. Got about 5" of snow. Will be below 0°F tomorrow and Tuesday morning.

That change from 1999 to 2000 was a major bit of work for me. I worked on a large company's database and nothing was created to account for a year that started with a '2'. We had to do a major overhaul of all the data and we started around 1997. What a headache!
Yep. We had some code and databases that assumed 19xx. Come 2000 the result would be 1900. Year calculations would have come out negative. Lots of work by lots of people to fix all that. No one figured code and databases written in the 80's would still be around 20 years later.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.
It's 20F out and I'm happy to report the sliding glass door did not freeze shut.
I filled the feed troughs last night at lock up to make sure no matter how late I wandered out to tend the flock they had food and water waiting for them to help them warm up.
This is where they are right now.

The only bird I could see out in the run was Wren. She was pecking at the oyster shell dispenser. I wonder if that means I have a player ready to get off the bench!

First run on throwing the driveway clear was as much of a PITA as usual.
Not much snow and ground not fully frozen so lots of grass, dirt, and gravel thrown.
But no major malfunctions, always a worry when using ancient equipment.
Just the chute control is not working well at all.

Good afternoon, cafe. Thanks for the coffee, Tonya! I've brought another pot along.

The wind has been horrendous here the last couple of days, but it's supposed to warm up. Phew. Lots of negatives lately - just in time for calving season to start. We've got four babies on the ground and snow on the way.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year.

Good to see you Meg, thanks for the coffee!

Thanks for the hot coffee, Meg.
DH and I got back from running the dogs about an hour ago. It was 23 degrees and they didn't care one bit. The entire flock was out in the pen when we got back. The sun was out so I believe that was the reason why.

Thanks for the coffee, Shad.

You told me something about dealing with my rooster that has changed my approach to dealing with him. (This was a few months ago.) I am now giving him a couple of the treats before I put the pan of treats* down for the girls. He has been better since I've done this, not going for my feet, hackles out.

Thank you.

*A plate of their food wetted into a mash, with some vegetable bits on top. Something I can pick up to hand to Darl.
My pleasure. Always pleased to keep a rooster from the chopping block.
