BYC Café

Good morning, Cafe. Thanks for the coffee, Tonya!

Great news on the house, Shad!

Woke up to a barn full of babies this morning and 34°. Nice of them to wait for a warm night :D

Not sure what we're looking at here. Anywhere but the camera!

Cute bunch! ❤

Good morning! More of a breeze out there today blowing some snow around but the temps are cooperating with me. We have a wrestling dual to attend tonight so it will be a good time to get out with the weather being "nice."
Good news, Shad, on your housing! Meg, your birds are quite photogenic with all of their colors!
Enjoy the day and stay safe, warm, upright, you know the drill ! Hugs! LOL!

It was positively balmy here today, at 38! Plus, little to no wind helped too.

I can't recall another winter when it was so windy, so much of the time! I thought I must be getting old, it felt really cold in the mid-20s. That isn't that cold to me, usually, but with all the wind, BRRRR.

Well, well, well.

Back in Dec my manager texted me on my off day that there was a mandatory meeting on benefits.

I texted back, I'm PT, I don't get benefits.

He replied, you work at least 30 hrs per week; you're eligible.

Oh, really? Right after I'd finished signing up for my benefits through the Marketplace for the 3rd time since increasing my hours from 24 to 30 starting in 2020.

And I've been getting holiday pay...

Got me thinking. I'm eligible for holiday pay, medical/dental/vision benefits and can contribute to a 401(k). Why am I not getting vacation time? So I asked today.

Oh, you do.

NO. I don't. I get 1.077 hrs of SICK time per week worked which only started after the law went into place in 2020 due to COVID-19. Our company chose to dump it in the PTO bucket to use as we see fit.

I'll get back to you...
Yes, you ARE eligible for vacation pay.

So. I've taken a total of 4 weeks off without pay and worked 8 extra hours every week I was eligible for holiday pay because no one ever told me I had these benefits for the past 2 years.

My manager is not happy with HR. He told me they WILL make up those weeks I took off without pay and I'll get vacation time this year. I would think I'd be eligible for 3 weeks but hell, I'll settle for 2. This makes a huge difference for me!!!

That is good news!

It is sad that it took so long to get it though.

Sounds like someone dropped the communication ball, but glad it will work out!
