Fabio's youngest daughter Wren, again the youngest, is in trouble. I've been noticing some runny yellowish poops on the boards but couldn't figure out who it was until this morning. I brought her in for a cleanup and found a malformed shell-less egg hanging out of her vent. I cleaned her up, tried to tug it out and it broke, then gave her a blow dry. She was quite feisty so that's a good sign. I started her on 680 mg a day of calcium citrate with D3 and 62 milligrams of Cipro twice a day. I hope she pulls through. I don't want to have to euthanize another bird just yet.

That's just a little over half of what we got two winters ago when we got 42" in 24 hours. It sucks!
Yeah, that was astounding.

Will you crate her to see that it actually comes out?
That's what I did when one of my hens had a 'butt hanger', it was out by the next morning.

I already put her back with the flock.
But I'll place her on the roost tonight at o' dark thirty after I give her her meds so I'll know what deposits are hers.
I'll be out before sun up to dose her again and exam her spot on the boards before anyone has a chance to mess with it.

VERY lucky.
There is a not-for-profit animal hospital about 20 miles from me. I think I'm going to take Piper there for her initial puppy exam when I pick her up and see what I think. I've heard that they're much more reasonable in price.
I don't know how the vast majority of people can afford to own a dog these days with the prices the way they are.
£50.00 just to be seen by a vet around here.
