BYC Café

Well, the county didn't plow our road. The farmer did. He has to do the next road out, which runs N-S, as he lives on it, and has a dairy farm. The milk truck has to get through. He did our road... because... he's that kind of neighbor. 1.5 miles round trip for him. Wonder how much diesel it takes to get his front loader that far, pushing all this snow?

Have I said recently how grateful I am for the neighbors out here? Very. Very grateful.

Thanks for the hot coffee! We are supposed to get above freezing for the next week, but we have the breezes that go along.
Orca, that is so cute!
Stay safe out there plowing, shoveling, walking!
I made butter mints yesterday. DS$ helped so there are some unique shapes. There is a small bowl on the counter.

They are very easy to make...

half cup butter softened (1 stick)
pinch of salt if unsalted butter
1 Tablespoon heavy cream
5 to 6 drops of peppermint oil or 1 tsp of peppermint extract.
Mix until smooth and creamy. You can use a mixer if you want.
Then add in half cups or whatever you can stir, more powdered sugar
for a total of 3.75 cups for the whole recipe.
I do not add food coloring, but some do.
Cover and chill for an hour .
Gather up the dough into 6 to 8 balls. Flatten and roll into ropes, .5 in diameter or
do what we did and flatten the dough into .5 inch thick shapes and use a knife to cut into bite size or proper looking butter mints. Whatever they look like, they taste great.
Air dry for 24 hrs (Yeah, right!)
Seal in airtight containers... enjoy!

Merry Christmas (Happy Holidays) Everyone!

We might be living in the north, but it seems like we’re warmer than most of North America right now - was 50F (10C) today!

Bella has no idea why we aren't going to hike today. The wind chill is currently -3F. I'm not going.
She keeps staring at me.
Christmas at my sister's was cancelled because most of them are sick with the flu. We moved it to Tuesday.

40's come along on Th. SMH.
Did I mention that I am so grateful that the power is on?!
Our power didn't go out but it did in parts of the city just north of us. The small grocery store had power yesterday but no internet. The liquor store .2 miles west had neither. They were open with power today, I got 6 bottles of Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc for DW.

The power was out at DW's PO from about 10 AM yesterday to noon today. She doesn't know how cold it was today because the thermometer only goes to +40F

Looks like we are getting your low 40s on Friday but no precipitation.

They had to close the highways.
too many big rigs jack knifed.

but the wind just hit 118mph
:ep That is Force 3 hurricane wind!

 That is Force 3 hurricane wind!

Yup, that’s why when Hurricane Fiona rolled by this fall it felt rather anticlimactic (her winds weren’t as high as last night for us, even though we had some of the highest winds in the province during the hurricane). Thankful that we have these regular winds so that we are prepared for the hurricanes.
