BYC Café

It did not stay north, inch or two overnight and coming down like mad, warnings last until 7pm.

I did get enough of run cleared for birds to leave the coop.
Still too cold to get all the frozen poop unstuck from boards.
Some pop right off, the juicy ones do not.

Damn, thought I would get out of here today, not gonna happen.
Running low on chookchow.
Just another day watching the snow fallandfallandfallandfall.
Dropsheadtotable.
At least you still get some eggs from your girls.
For the last few days I was only able to collect one or two per day.

Which reminds me that most of my hens are already heading towards old age at 5 and 6 years old and I will have to start butchering to make room for the spring chicks.

On top I suspect them to be too fat as DH has started to feed them too generously in the morning (" oh, but they always look soooo hungry!").

.......the same here, but not for snow .........rather the opposite, so hot, so very humid, sticky, hot.I am so over the rain, the high humidity and the heat. We will get some storm for sure..I hope it comes quickly to get it over and done with. Once the storm comes and gone, the humidity gone, the air is cleared again. We get this every summer, it is like the sun and the moon with here.

It takes great effort to not spoil my chickens too. But as our weather has been so much rain and heat, without effort I had reduce significantly the extra varieties to just green and every 2 or 3 day of fruits. They eat more of their feed and less wastage.

Good Morning All,
I am having my first coffee and it is still warm. I am sweating as I sit here waiting for my coffee to cool down. So hot.
I really don't want to complaint too much about the weather, but it is affecting my movement/activities significantly.
Yesterday I had to come down to the garden so many times and my eyes got really sore, I think they got sunburn. I was wearing sunglasses.

Well, I do use supplemental lighting.....and I have several at least that old. My oldest, a CCL, has laid a few this last week.

Last time I shoveled, at about noon, we'd gotten 4-6" today, it hasn't stopped yet...another 3 hours to go on the warnings.

UHG!!! Tho it doesn't get quite that hot here.... I hate the heat, I live under the ceiling fans from the time it get up to about 85F.
Do you have air conditioning?

We have a portable air conditioning, we rarely use it because it only cool up 1 part of the house, but when we walk away from that room we will feel so much hotter in other part of the house. To keep the temperature the same so that it does not feel so uncomfortable we have 3 fans on to rotate the air and avoid using the aircond.
The humidity makes the hot weather more uncomfortable.

I would love to be at the beach today sitting under a nice cool shade and sipping cold drink.......... I can just imagine it for the time being.

Use some deer suet or vaseline around the rims.
I lube the track with white lithium grease. The air is leaking between the doors near the bottom and the condensing water in that gap freezes and seals the doors together.

If I put deer suet there, Bella will end up with explosive diarrhea.

I've got another girl laying. That's 4 out of 19. I've filled 2 cartons and that's after I ate at least a full carton's worth since Jan 2.

I'm trying to get a good picture of Colby's wattles to get a better look at them. He's so scared of me he won't hold still until after dark. So I'll go back out then. I'm not going to touch him. He continues to shake his whole chest instead of just his head. I'm sure he is in terrible pain. But he continues to crow and herd the girls and tidbit them. I have not seen him mount any though.
