BYC Café

Good evening Café!

I brought another pot to share, so help yourselves to it. :caf

Although I actually had planned otherwise, I just gave in to one of my countless broodies and presented her with 10 fresh Amrock eggs. She was delighted and while softly talking to them, rolled them under her belly and made herself comfortable looking very satisfied.
It was her fourth time being broody this year, so I finally gave in and am curious to see how she will manage.

Sorry to read about your chicks @DobieLover .
Owning an incubator is very handy if you plan to start a serious breeding program.
You can hatch simultaneously and after marking the chicks according to their respective blood lines, give them all to the broody to raise. This way you can order hatching eggs from various breeders without risking the chicks suffering serious damage during transport.

Good morning Cafè. Coffee is ready.

The little chick that I found cold and barely moving two nights ago hadn't eaten much at all by the time I checked them late morning yesterday.. So I brought her in, gave her another boost with poultry cell in the miracle water and put her back out with the others. I repeated the boost three more times out in the coop.
Later in the day I washed their little feed trough and filled it up with a handful of crumble from the main chicken's trough. That crumble gets powdery. They really liked that powdery crumble and the little troublesome chick readily hopped in and started eating with the others. So I left the light on all night long to make sure that she would eat all night long. She was scampering around with the others very active this morning. I added a shot of poultry cell to their waterer and filled their trough again with the powdery crumble from the main trough for the day. I'm getting much more confident that she will make it.

Hello Cafe’! Just popping in to say hi. We have the two local grandkids for the day.

We may or may not be getting chicks next week. The grandkids and their parents borrowed an incubator (because I have no idea where mine is), got some eggs from me and have been incubating for 18 days so far. If anything is going to hatch, they’re due Tuesday. We’ll see how it goes.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Good Morning Cafe was up 6:30 by Moose the old Labrador.
Had my coffee brought the rest of the pot to share.
We have not seen rain they talked of here but that is fine with me.
I have never bought from hatchery, that said I have bought a few at the local feed store in the past. They do not sell peeps till peeps are like 5 days old.
