We have had no rain here either I can live with that.
Been a hell of a day so far!

What are you feeding?
Do you have oyster shell on the side?
Eggshells are more of a treat than anything else.

Good Morning
I feed my chicken layer feed both crumble and pellet, 4% calcium according to the feed information.

Also available for them is free choice calcium that look more like grids with very small crushed seashells, not actual oyster shell. The produce stores here sell that as calcium when I asked for oyster shell.

They also in a big run where they dig up the soil. This morning I found the Isa Brown that laid no shell egg yesterday eating crushed eggshell on the ground, but not eating the small grid/seashell next to her. It baffled me seeing her busy eating finely crushed eggshells. These eggshells were toasted in the oven and crushed.

Have hot coffee with powder milk to keep the coffee hot for longer..just a bit longer.

It is Friday and 8:30am over here. Inside my house now is 12C=54F, I have runny nose due to this cold, 4 cook plates are running, slow cooker and so is the oven. The kitchen is the warmest spot in the house.

I think one of the hens that look a bit off must be the one that laid the 2nd no shell egg, I gave her a calcium tablet. Her vent looks moist compare to the others are dried, they are not laying eggs. Watching, and investigating.

Good morning Cafè. I've brewed a fresh pot. I found a few bear hairs in the last one.

Speaking of bears... I got a call from C last night. He was about 400 yards down the road and asked me, "what do I do if there is a bear blocking the road and it won't move?"

I said, "you sit there and gawk at it until I get there to gawk too!!" I hopped in my car and zipped down the road and could see C stopped in the road but no bear. He told me it was to my left, up the side road. So I turned up that way and there he was! Big beautiful black bear. Looked to be in the 200# range. He walked off into the woods going away from my house.

Wonderful. I get them around my house from time to time. Magnificent creatures!
