But, they do keep you YOUNG..LMAO..........
Well, we got our tree yesterday. Hubby and I always go out to the tree farm and cut it down. D cold yesterday. I think it only got up to 20 degrees and I dont know what the wind chill factor was. But I was D cold even with cover alls on! burrr.
Looks like we got about 1+ inch of snow last night and its 15 degree here this am...
Well, ladies..gotta "suit up" and go feed horses!!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Have a question: Now my big hens are sneezing!!
hit.gif
I'm going to start them on the terramycin today. Can I eat the eggs when they are on this? I would post in the forum but no one ever seems to answer me and I know you girls will!!!

Have another question:
lol.png
I'm thinking about combining the chicks and hens. They are almost 2 mo. now. My hens are small....not even a year old until spring. I have one larger more aggressive EE'er. I was thinking about making a door that is only big enough that the chickens can get into there area, and keep up bullies out if one needs a safe space. Do you think this will work?

Got all the Christmas shopping done and found some good bargains. It was nice to have some away time from the kids. Love them dearly but I was needing a break.

I have to brave the cold today and clean the chicks area. It is beginning to get nasty out there. I really take pride in keeping it clean but this cold is terrible. I'll just have to bundle up and get out there.

Big snow coming tomorrow...so they say.

Chix, here's what the product info says...

TERRAMYCIN SOLUBLE
This broad-spectrum antibiotic is a shot-gun approach to the problems that can occur during the growing period. Colds, chronic respiratory disease, air sac infection, fowl cholera, and other diseases can be helped if treated early. Terramycin can be used on poultry if they are not laying yet. Dosage 1 tsp. per gallon for maintenance 2 tsp. per gallon for treatment. (NOT OK to eat eggs during treatment with these antibiotics.)

The Q&A on this Product

QUESTION: how long before i can start to eat the eggs, nhow long after treatment
ANSWER: It is recommended not to eat eggs from birds that have been given Terramycin.

QUESTION: I have broilers. can I use this product and still eat the chicken meat?
ANSWER: You will have to consult a vet, or poultry specialist at your state university.

QUESTION: If you give this to a rabbit can you consume the rabbit at a later date? If so what is the wait time from last treatment until butcher?
ANSWER: You will have to check with your vet.

QUESTION: can this be used for horses?
ANSWER: There is no information regarding horses listed on the label.

QUESTION: I see that you are not supposed to eat eggs from chickens that have been given terramycin. Can the chicken be butchered and eaten after being given terramycin. If so, what is the waiting period. Also, if I have started giving the chicken terramycin (I just started today.), but want to switch to vet rx so that I can eat the eggs, would that be possible? If so, can I stop giving terramycin and then start with the Vet Rx or would there be some type of drug interaction? Thank you!
ANSWER: There could be a trace amount left in the yolk of the egg. It can be especially hard on someone prone to allergies.

QUESTION: Does this mean that the eggs can never be eaten form this chicken although has completed the regimen of the teramycin and may even be a few months passed the initial treatment.
ANSWER: It is recommended that you do not consume the eggs at any time. There can be a trace amount of Terramycin left in the yolk of the egg and if someone is prone to allergies they might have a reaction.

QUESTION: can you eat chickens that were given terramycin hci in the water. what effect if any does it have on humans
ANSWER: There is a possible trace amount of the drug that can be in the yolk of the egg, so it is recommended not to eat eggs from chickens that have been given Terramycin. This is especially important if someone is prone to allergies.

QUESTION: If you give this to chickens laying eggs how long do you wait to eat the eggs?
ANSWER: It is recommended not eating the eggs at any time of a bird that has been given Terramycin. There is a trace amount left in the yolk.

Se I posted those last 3 names.

ris I haven't mailed SS just yet I have just a few more things to do.

chix- now we use terramycin and wait for 2 weeks before we start eating the eggs again. but for sneezeing we use, vet rx or garlic in their waters, on the vet rx dh takes a Q-tip and puts some on the end and then swabs the nostrils with it, and the area around. and that helps. and so does the apple viniger cider SE suggested and so does a peice of garlic in the waters. I use the wild garlic that grows in the pasture, but the store bought kind will work to. Hope that helps.

well gals dh is driving me nuts again so I must go. MEN!!! I just want to SWEAR!!!! lol Maw.

Yup, Vinegar and Garlic. It will really help. I started mine on it again they even seem to have more energy. I am also getting a great egg count still and we have had temps in the single digits.

I think your chick door sounds good, chix! I believe 2 months is the time I read was ok for people to introduce a flock. I think it is best to do it at night, and also make sure that the hens and chicks have been able to see each other separated during the day...does that make sense? I guess keeping them each in a separate area for about a week where they can see each other, but not get at each other at all....then in the dead of night when the big ones are sleeping, let the little ones in. You will still get some food scrabbling. And I guess the process takes a minimum of about 2 weeks.

A big "Thank you" to Elcunni/Erin for the darling potatochip scarves and the beautiful icicles (ornaments). A lot of time was put into these and I really appreciate it.
Erin. I would love to know how you make the ornaments as I know my daughter would love to make some. If you could send directions to me I know she would jump right on it.

Merry Christmas everyone and again "thank you" Erin so much

BTW: I loved the wrapping!!

She had a post in another thread about a death in the family. It's sounding like it's pretty emotionally draining....
Thanks girls for bringing this forward.
