tiki, scrambled thanks... I have been bashing my brains all day trying to figure out what it is that scared them, as for the new ones my hubby says that the stress of the move from one home to another and the heat from the day and whatever came in the yard last night scaring everything is what killed the turken hens as for the RIR hen she was smoother by the other chickens in the pen all trying to get in the nest boxs to hide. When I got out there the ones that couldn't fit in the nest boxs where all huddled close togather in the corner of the bottom of the pen, which makes me wonder if it wasn't either and owl or a chicken hawk? I leaning more toward chicken hawk since when I went out at 10:30 there was not a single chicken of my DH's in the yard which I though was unusal and then end up finding my hen dead and the others huddled in nest boxs and corners when usally there sqawking at me to let them out and nearly trample me when I open the door. But this morning was just a shock for me. Well the good news of the day is that my one last RIR hen made it she came out of the shock, she spent most of the day in a wicker basket in the kitchen in front of the ac and I had to pump electrolites in to her but she came back around and is now standing up peeking over the side of the basket watching the girls run back and forth through the kitchen to their room so I think she will make it. As for the rest of my chickkidies I have installed lots of noise windchimes on the sides and doors of all the pens and coops and hung up sparkle paper stuff and kites that blow around to frighten off any thing that might even think of flying around or landing on their cages. Plus I will be able to hear the chimes if anything should try to get in from the bottom too. Lets hope it works. This is the first attack I have had in three years. and hopefully the last ever.
