Try feeding it... But just lightly... I gave one of my apple trees a little too much nitrogen I think, and now she doesn't produce much but grows branches and foliage like a monster every year... Also you may want to look into pruning it for better production...

all the trees need a serious pruning. We have been cutting a little every year but they are out of control. So next week we are going to really cut them back. And feed them good and spray too. They were just not taken care of for so long that the last four years we have been trying to bring them back. But thank you for the tip about nitrogen. Hopefully feeding will help give it a must needed boost.

What I've read about plums is that they grow best on slopes, or in other places with good drainage. They don't need much fertilizer. But these instructions are just for a Finnish climate. I disregarded those instructions and planted a plum tree right where all water going through the chicken run drains through. It will be interesting to see how it does.

It's Meeeelllting! The Snow is Melting! I predict loose dirt earlier than normal this year! Woot. Still hard as nails yet of course...but with only 3-4 inches of snow and a forcast this week of 50-60 degree weather. Well it ain't gonna take long to melt.

Only problem is we've seen snow drifts the middle of may when Mother Nature gets a wild hair.

I need to buy some seeds....

Today I purchased Stowell's Evergreen corn, Ohio Blue Clarage corn, suyo long cucumber, danvers half long carrot, Jimmy Nardello Italian sweet pepper, and black plum paste tomato seeds from Southern Exposure. Monday I planted lettuce and cabbage seeds in containers outdoors and tomatoes and peppers indoors. I also bought trees on Monday from Root of David in Crab Orchard, KY. I bought a Stayman Winesap apple, a Black Arkansas apple, a nectarine , and two paw paw trees. Spring is in the air!

@lazy gardener
I kept saying to myself, "I'll save seeds from the next one..." Then the few I did save seemed too "puny", and I didn't know if they'd sprout. I also had half a package of straight eight left over and thought I'd just plant those this year. But, I liked the taste of the suyo long so much that I went looking for more. You can never have too much seed, right?
