Hoping for some advice. What might cause zucchini to flower but then for the fruit to turn yellow and fall off when they reach just a couple inches? Any thoughts welcome.

Fruit drop off on zucchini can be related to blossom end rot or improper pollination. Here is a nice article about it.

I'm not much of a fan of ginger... though I've discovered a wonderful soft ginger cookie that my whole family loves... But... I do want to convert all of my indoor winter plants to something that is actually useful. Citronella, parsley, rosemary, basil, thyme, sage, and mint are on my list. Gotta try some ginger, now!

Cher, thanks SO much, that article perfectly describes my problem. I suspect the neighboring mosquito trap is killing off our pollinators. But I will try both things!

It's the first completely clear day in two weeks! As much as I love rain, it was making it impossible to go into the field and work, and the weeds have begun taking over again. Husband and I are going out later today to pull all the larger weeds and then spray with vinegar to kill the roots. Then I can hand-turn the soil and plant the winter crop of carrots and radishes.

Good luck with those weeds! I got our fall peas planted the beginning of this week. I forgot I was going to presoak them so they would germinate faster... I do want to get some fall radish and carrots planted also, as well as some salad greens.

We've been having afternoon or nightly rains here in NM. Veggies are really enjoying it!





HOORAY!

I put out copious amounts of blood meal around my peach trees and nary a pit has been filched nor have there been any squirrel sightings! Seems to be working so much better than the Bobbex-R which just made my apricot trees smell like a bad worcestershire factory dumped on them.


Big harvest of peaches this weekend and then lots and lots of canning, jamming, etc.

Weeds have been pulled and sprayed. I turned some of the soil into 4x4 ft patches. I sowed the carrots and the radishes rather like the bio-intensive method: no rows, just sprinkle and water. I'm finding this method works best for me, and I thin the foliage if I need to. Also it apparently keeps the weeds down. Between this and companion planting I'm seeing very few pests and rather nice harvests. Tomatoes are doing well.
