Asian stink bugs decimated the cukes and virtually all squash overnight :( When you look at the plants, you see them on there. We picked off thousands, it seemed, but a futile effort. Plants are dying.

I do still have pumpkins though, as well as melons, tomatoes, corn and sweet potatoes coming. Then instead of a fall garden like I had planned, I'm thinking of running some hogs over the garden to plow, remove rhizomes and weeds, and fertilize. Then I'd pull them off in spring for processing and restart the garden. Hubby says I should ask the neighbors if they are OK with that. Their house is about 100 feet or so, across the road, from the garden area. I say, it's my land, I do what I want (and give them half a pig or whatever when I'm done because we don't eat that much pork).

I'd say lucky neighbors!

A few gardeen pics I took this morning.

Runner beans covering the mailbox we keep our weeding tools in.

The wild birds took a heavy hit when the chickens came to live with us....we stopped feeding them.

Renegade Callaloo & summer squash.
LOVE your garden!!!!!

Hi everyone- looking for ideas for fall planting... I usually don't and after reading more and more about it, I think I am wasting space. I have pulled the broccoli and the beans and peas... so I have a little space to start with. I threw in some left over lettuce seeds I had, fig'd they would at least feed the hens if they didn't mature fully before the frost hits. I live in NH - zone 5

Thanks! I'm in zone 9 so I really can't offer much advice. Here, the trick is getting in early enough so it gets a little size to it before the cold weather sets in. My garden has to be in by sept 15 to achieve this, so you may already be pushing it but it can't hurt to try. I start all my seeds in soil blocks, it gives me 30 - 45 extra days to prep the garden beds for planting. My fall crops include; kale, mustard greens, collards, lettuce, fennel, turnip, beets, fava beans & some cover crops.

You MIGHT have time to get some broccoli in and get some before winter or try overwintering it.

Kale could go in now.

I'd have to look at what else I got going for winter. I'm 6b. Planning to do these in the City Pickers boxes because of the alternative garden plans for the winter..

Southern Exposure Seed Exhchange has a list of winter things and suggested starting/planting times in the back of their catalog. You would need to move fast though, as they are either 7 or 6a, not 5.

Glad you caught the girls in time! Our dog found a turtle today too! Followed it all they way to the bayou lol

Kitchen garden. That's my grandbaby Maddy (in pink) and her bff decorating Mamaw's walkway.

One of my goldfish ponds. And Princesses!

How can you not look at this fae and believe in miracles? Born with craniosynostosis, @ 6 months old her little noggin was held together by plates, stiches and screws. Today she's the biggest part of my life.

Second pond and herbs (kitchen garden)

Lots of hidden walkways.

Princess Buttercup, and the pond after daylily haircut day, lol. Apples are falling everywhere.
