When we bought the property there was a horrid blackberry tangle (well, horrid to me because blackberries were the State Weed on our property in CA) in the fig bed in front of the greenhouse. Whacking through a couple of years of growth revealed much to my delight an iris bed underneath, smothered from the sun for at least two years. Who knew? I dug them up and rearranged them for a more uniform look. They finally bloomed this year. Alas, ALL white with just 2 yellow ones. The previous owners had zero imagination for the garden and no sense. Did they really think a blackberry vine left unattended was going to sit on a puny iron trellis off to the side?

Looking at all that white one cannot help but hum "Here comes the bride...."

I diveded mine like three or for years ago so they'll need it next year I guess. I have Easter lilies, never had much luck dividing them though :/
Mostly I have tiger Lilly's, but I think I have 13 varieties total. I'm putting an easter lilly in shortly so 14 varieties :D woo hoo
Saw my first blooming forsythia today. This has been the latest garden year I can remember.
Opposite here, I'm seeing leaves now, it's quite early... Even had worms in the greenhouse soil over a month ago... It's was a nice suprise.

Those are so beautiful, I'm going to have to find some in white, I have purple mostly, a few yellow (all bearded I think) and yellow water irises, those get taller than me (no too hard to do) but very cool plants...

Tiger lilies and irises are so pretty when they bloom! Congrats on your truckload @mymilliefleur . I bet they will be a wonderful color burst.

I planted some Asiatic lilies the first year we bought this house. Two years later and I think they are finally starting to fill out. I want that whole corner to fill out in that lovely peachy orange color. The landscaping here was horrid when we bought it. So incredibly neglected. I think I've finally managed to tame that mess of a Rose of Sharon.

In vegetable news I separated my indoor pumpkins, squash and green beans. The green beans are loving it and are trying to grab onto everything they can manage (including my pants when I was re-potting). Only time will tell if I waited too long to separate the squash and pumpkins. Even if half of them don't make it there will be plenty. Next up is separating the tomatoes.

Hello Gardeners!

I have a question regarding something that was posted on the Natural Chicken Keeping thread last summer. I'm wondering if anyone knows about this.

I remember last year that someone was saying that if you plant zucchini later in the season you will avoid squash borers and possibly other squash bugs.

Does anyone know the specifics on that? How late do you plant?

We live in a completely different hardiness growing zone than you. We will plant more zuccinis next month. (June) i don't know if it will keep the bugs and borers out or not.

I would imagine the timing would vary from region to region. I generally plant a vining summer squash in July or August that comes into production just as my Zucchini are beginning to have a problem. I find that if I plant pigeon peas later they are less likely to be bothered by aphids.

I think I'd like one... For 30-50 dollars I can get a much better idea of what my efforts battling my crummy climate are getting me...
Any way if any one uses a data logger I'm just looking for a recommendation on brand or what not....
