Re the green beetles, an organophosphate like Orphene or Dursban would take them out; but you'd have to consider its other impacts. These insecticides are toxic to bees, for example, and you'd want to read the label concerning environmental impacts and effects on eating. I'm following to learn less harmful ways to manage them, as I suspect something in my potatoes.

Not on this thread a lot so I may have missed it somewhere but do any of you ever do a seed or plant exchange? I don't have any right now but probably this next spring I will have a lot of thorny type and thorn less blackberries and some raspberries plants available. I usually propagate a lot of them from cuttings I do late in the late summer- fall after I do a little pruning I always use those cuttings to grow some more berry plants. In the thorn less variety of blackberry I have Ouachita and Another called Prime-Ark Freedom. The thorny variety I have is called Kiowa. They are all three excellent producers of berries. Prime-Ark freedom also produces two crops per year. In the raspberry plants I will have Nova variety. Very tasty berry. I'm considering doing some blueberry plant cuttings as well. I don't know just a thought. What you guys think? Or is there a seed and plant exchange thread already? I put some links below to some information on the varieties I mentioned above.

Can you even purchase those products any more? I know Dursban and Diazanon are restricted use chemicals. I think they can be purchased if you have a restricted chemical applicators permit. Maybe?? Stuff sure worked good though I do know that

The above is the new expanded bed where my crabapple tree used to be. The stump is from some large tree trimming that was going on down the road from me.

Daisy bed is doing well

Zebra grass and ninebark are flourishing finally.

And what would life be without a little whimsy. Found this round basket at a thrift shop for a dollar and planted some cobweb hens and chicks in it with a couple annuals I found on clearance. The whole thing cost me less than 6 dollars to buy and plant. I am happy with how it looks.

Thank you all. It has been an adventure figuring out this yard and the horrible dirt it had. Finally looking more and more like I always knew it could. Some things have worked well others have been a disaster.

I've done a seed exchange, but found that by the time you pay postage, there's little if any savings when comparing to buying locally, or even ordering from some mail order companies.

Thank you. That is just from the front yard. I also planted a butterfly garden this year. We had some salvaged timbers and I had a wild idea to make a butterfly patch.
I should go take a couple pics of it.

I have learned to live with the little snakes.



My Glads are blooming nicely too.

Yes I am battling the weeds again this year. The rain sure made them happy. The blue tarp is on one of my chicken runs to keep the rain out of the feed.

Harvested garlic today. Bit early I think but the leaves were wilted and yellow despite frequent watering so I just pulled 'em up. Bulbs are a bit puny but the larger ones will be seed (as well as the stage 1 bulbils I planted) and the smaller ones are big enough for eating. It wasn't a large harvest as this is my experiment year; I'll be planting much more next year (this year) now that I know the plant's temperament.

Also processed my troublesome roo, but that's another thread.

That is not a little snake. We've seen a few long ones this year too. We had so much rain early on that the hay field grew up thick and quick which brought out the snakes, or so it seemed. They don't bother me. I'd rather have them than the mice.
Your gladiolas are beautiful, but I really like that $6 basket too.
