Should I get some smaller apple trees( this one of a kind apple is 8'? tall and produced apples earlier this year, it was most likely pollinated by other apples at Home Depot) and graft the buds/ stems onto them, thus self pollinating apples? If it's still in a pot unplanted I'd take the apple off, better for the tree that way. Even if it is planted I'd still pull the fruit off, leaves more energy for producing a better root system gives you a healthier tree over all.
Would appear so.
Explain that a bit more please?
If you have any apple trees in your neighborhood, you should be all set. But, you could graft an other variety onto it, or just plant an other tree. You'd want to be sure they bloom at the same time. Did you say it was still in the pot? If so, not good. Those roots need to be able to spread out. If they circle in the pot, they can permanently stunt the tree.
Well.lizard, there's another year coming with opportunities to try again. At least that's how I see it, given the need to change things around in my somewhat shaded garden.
Check out the option of building a cattle panel green house. Or you could build one on the cheap with used windows. Even cheaper still, a bunch of hay bales and some storm window sashes for an instant cold frame that can be broken down and used for mulch when weather heats up.
