That's really cool, Dan. I just love the variety in squash. One year, I bought some huge buttercup from a neighbor who has a little farm stand. Of course I saved the seed. I didn't weigh the squash, but based on the production from the seeds of that squash, the original weighed over 20#. The following year, I planted some of those seeds, and again, harvested Buttercup squash in excess of 20# each. I harvested 185# of squash from a single hill that was 3' x 6'. Also planted in that hill was my favorite squash, Red Kuri. I saved some seeds from the giant Buttercup, which evidently hybridized with the Red Kuri. The fruit from those seeds was a huge Red Buttercup. I planted some of those the following year. (also shared some with Bruceha2000) We both had same results. Fruit reverted to Red Kuri type. However, digging through my hoarde of seeds this spring, I found some of the original super buttercup. So... will plant some of those along with some Red Kuri, and some Blue Hubbard, and see what surfaces from that mix.
