I actually just ordered those Hiyahiya needles (9") circulars and they are supposed to help make knitting socks a bit easier. I like circulars so I'm excited to use these...I'll let you all know how it's going when I get them on Monday. I'm so excited!!

I have never knitted on dpn, only on circulars and regular knitting needles. I LOVE the circulars for making hats. I've made some ear flap hats and I didn't need any other needles besides a circular one even for the decrease and to close it all together. I forget where I put the pattern so I'll have to be searching for it again.

I'm curious to know what your thoughts are on those 9" needles. I bought some for socks, and I'm still on the fence about them. I tend to bounce between magic loop, dpns, and the 9" circular.
 
I recently tried the magic loop with the circulars that I have already, and it didn't work out too well. I was getting dreaded ladders on each side of the sock and I didn't know how to get rid of them even though I tried some tips that people gave. So I gave up and ordered some 9" needles. I should get them on Monday and I will try them. Hopefully I like them. There's a video on youtube that shows you how to make socks bit by bit. I'm going to watch the video as I knit

I ordered my first drop spindle for spinning today. Hooray! Going to the Common Ground Fair here in Maine this weekend & going to bug the ladies to show me how to use it, buy a bunch of roving and ogle the livestock.
I wish I had entered my Ancona drake in the poultry show, he is gorgeous these days.

Hope everyone's knitting is going better than mine.
I had to change patterns since the yarn I wanted to use for the cable sampler afghan was not cabling nicely.
Started a great lace afghan throw, got 3 rows from the end of the hard part & realized I messed up by one stitch somewhere 3 rows back.

Going to start fresh today, and hopefully not mess it up this time.

I think your being comfortable with who you are regardless of stereotypes proves you are 133% male. I have some very creative & manly guy friends who have admitted often they want to knit but won't because it is "girly". Lame! I say - Man Up and Knit!
Cable knitting was developed by Irish fisherMEN. The more intricate your cable, the more respect you got. They needed the warm, waterproof sheep's wool sweaters to be at sea, and something to do on the cold, dark nights. Not to mention how portable the hobby is, and the fact that you could do serious damage with a needle or two probably came in handy when the whiskey flowed freely.
