BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

The pillow case is great...writerofwords. I like that grandmothers flower garden. It's like one I made over 20 years ago. I like the smaller flower I'm doing now. The paper piecing is both addictive and relaxing.

how do you do the edges of a rag quilt?

do I just close the block and frey it?

do I add a trim?

there is an edging technique where you take a strip and fold it and press it... (there is a little tool to make this easier too) .. what is this edging technique called? (I will know it when I hear it)

I've never made one but I know you frey the edges of the blocks but would think it would be more stabe if it was edged. I bet someone else can come up with a better answer than I can.

rag quilt
if using flannels, cut 2 blocks and put them back to back, clip all the edges 1/2 apart about 1 inch deep.
repeat this for all your blocks, sew them together with the seams all one side.
sew around the edges to hold the blocks together back to back.

with fleese, you don't have to do to layers, just one

with denim, do the same as flannel.

no ironing needed, when done you wash it and the flannel or denim will fray after drying. fleese will not fray any at all.

DO NOT, DO NOT EVER, DO NOT EVER EVER PUT A DENIM RAG QUILT IN YOUR WASHER!! take it to the laundermat to do. I killed a washer that was less than 1 week old because all the little threads came out in the washer and clogged EVERYTHING!!!!!!

If you need yet another project, I placed a pretty group of Valentine fabrics, panel & backing at auction:

I made the panel into this lovely quilt with my family's names quilted in the open sections at the bottom.

I am at the final stage of my rag quilt.... snipping all of the lil fringe... any suggestions? tips? tricks?

i went and bought the fiskars spring action snippers...

I was gifted one not long ago, a flannel rag quilt---super soft and cozy!

I am almost finished with the top of my semi-watercolor quilt; first border is done and when my fabric arrives in a couple days from thousandsofbolts, I'll add a 5-6" soft green border then it's ready to sandwich.
