I am new to byc and I love to sew, I am working on a jean quilt I also have a baby quilt I am trying to fix, I also crochet and embroider and do sewing, I am in the process of making all in one cloth diapers for granddaughter so I would love to join if I can

Whatever ya'll do DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT but that jean quilt in your washer at home!! I blew up a washer that was less than a month old with a jean quilt. Take it to the laundry and blow up theirs!!

Well, I'm making mine in squares, and each square like a rag quilt is layered with the denim, then thin batting, and another fabric under that with an X sewn through. I have started using the squares you get in those little "cake" things.. they're pretty small - I'm not sure but around 3 inches square. I'm using little kids jeans, so its hard to get much of a square out of a 4t pair of jeans..

I'm going to try use bigger squares, or strips - or this thing will take forever.
Fleece would work well, and you'd probably not need batting, it all depends on how cozy and warm you need the blanket to be. Mine is going on my son's bed (I hope)
I am trying to get a pocket or two on the squares as well, for fun! I have to figure that out, won't be able to sew the X.

And save the tops of the jeans, you can make purses or bags out of them.

Do you have patterns for the quilts you all make. I am trying my best too learn out too quilt. Classes are too expensive and quilt patterns around here are expensive also. I never knew you could take jeans and make a quilt or I would have kept my family's over the years. I also read somewhere that you could take your Tee shirts that you buy on all your trips and make a quilt with them. I can't make nothing without something too go by.

If you're going to try piecing quilt blocks, then you'll need to follow a pattern, and paper piecing is easiest I think (you sew through the paper)

I've seen some of the t-shirt quilts/blankets - I don't like sewing much with stretchy stuff, I do it under duress!

For the denim quilt I made, I just cut 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 square of denim and backing fabric which was all scraps. Took 1 denim and 1 backing square put them wrong sides together. Did the same with another. Then take both sets of squares, put backing fabrics right sides together and stitch through all 4 layers about a half inch from the edge. This will give you the raw edge that will fray. Keep doing this until you make a strip as wide as you want it. Just keep making strips. When you have enough for as big as you want, sew strips together and then all the way around the perimeter 2x's.

The had part is snipping the edges to make them fray. Be sure not to snip through your stitches.
