Cabinet Styled Styrofoam Incubator?

The potentiometer is going to be a issue. They are humidity sensitive an will fail quickly in a incubator. This is the downfall of the LG incubators. Many people hate LG cause they fail a lot an it all boils down to the thermostats potentiometer.

we got no problems here, in Indonesia, but don't know the performance at other areas .. In case potentiometer causing problems, digital up/down key should be used ...

Hey Aprophet that's a pretty good setup you got there, I don't give a hoot whatever the equipment looks like, tattered duct tape etc... As long as it works, does the job and I see you have some nice jap quail... so well done... I hope I do too in a couple of weeks, but someone told me rolling eggs on roller will be a problem... but I can't turn back and redesign, too much efffort & time already... What about yourself, are you hand turning some batches? does it take you long to get back up to temp & humidity etc? Also p.s. you got a lot of 'dead' animals on your farm? but I guess you must also have some nice "RUGS"
lol.png
...hmm I should have gone with 2X light globes on same wire, it's a good idea..but I lack space... My next one will be a Freezer Defroster element.. that will be with many batches from this one 1st!!

"Punk" I Strongly Agree, better to have too much humidity than not enough.. always adjust down but not up! I hope you feel confident to order those eggs soon... didn't yah get soooo P*ssed Off when you read on BYC ... Ummm...I need some hatch buddies, setting today...etc etc...

I am a trapper I do animal damage control I have been eliminating a lot of 15-25 pound nutria rats here of late the pictures you saw were from my predator line the last coupla years I was slacking this past season I only caught 47 fox
smile.png
the fur is processed and sold on all the animals and meat is consumed on more then half of them and a lot of the meat is made into bait

when I use those bators I used to hand turn but the last coupla hatches I just put a 2 x 4 under one side of the bator and 6 hours later I put it under the other side when I was hand turning I tweaked the wattage's until the bators recovered within 3-5 minutes and when the heat came up the RH followed

speaking of trapping?... when I was a kid I used to set some rabbit traps
bun.gif
while camping till one day I caught a "bandicoot" native australian animal (I was so dissappointed
hide.gif
at damage done to innocent animal, I only hate the guilty ones!) , Let's just say I never trapped again after that! Ferral cats do Soooooooooooo much damage...
somad.gif
And Ferreting was also Fun, Very Efficient.! But sometimes you need a Shovel!!
he.gif
But I never eat Rabbits anymore.. Can't be trusted because of "Mixo" Poison!! I seen sooooooo Many beautiful Animal skins in Western China, but couldn't bring back cause fear of customs... and I'd have those "PETA" people protesting outside my house!

Anyway... I have to have an auto turner cause many times I'm away from home more than 12 hours because of work! Now I'm desperately Quickly modifying it cause someone told me the Wide end of Egg should always be up! darn I have an Emergency Challenge!

Some New pics to be posted next 2 days, Stay Tuned...

I'm just curious about Humidity Control... I have a 5 millimeter inlet hole (adjustable) near suction side of Fan but what about Outlet? I'm guessing to place at furtherest point from Inlet? RIGHT? Wrong? Any tips? I'm close now for first setting date EVER!

Hey AHWorkshop, Show us those "Jungle fowl" I love the Green feathers too...
ya.gif
And Please tell me you don't gamble on those birds... I know it happens some places!

Keep this post goingggg, it's all about to happen....

my humidity contrpl or lack of is the big blue round thing at the top of one end of the bator the other part is at the bottom of the other end the ally looking part another homemade piece those bandicoots are cute little guys
smile.png
when we want rabbits we use a box trap it is homemade affair that ctches them alive we have little bunnies in the yard now I leave the flower gardens overgrown a bit ( this gives them shelter) to let them get big enough to be able to avoid the foxes and cats

Well this Friday I'll pick up 12+ jap quail eggs & Sunday 2 dozen... To be continued, the hatch craze will begin~~
lol.png

Someone told me they put their incubator "ON" 2 days before setting!!
ep.gif
but I'll do the same I guess...

The guy I pick up eggs from on Sunday also Quail hunts!! says Wild ones taste Much Better! But for now I only have a dozen and some are favorites so Just for Eggs!!

Are you getting closer Punk-a-doodle?

I have to catch up with this thread this weekend! But awesome, awesome pics aprophet! I can't wait to look at them in more detail later!! Thanks so much for sharing. And foo, if you think that well put together setup is wood 'butchering', you certainly haven't seen me wield a hammer. Not. Pretty.

HOOORAY! Congrats on the incoming quail Brim! Are you getting a mix of colors, and which ones? I love the tux japs, so cute! And I'm a bit behind in my bator. Trying to work out an easier and more reliable humidity system for our bone dry house.

Hey "Punk" I just got my 1st doz eggs.. mixed bunch (given for free!) I am expecting another breeder to give me another 2 doz on Sun.. (Mainly White!) I have already 3 Tux ones already... But I went outside one night and found 1 severely attacked, needless to say I was "EXTREMELY" ticked!
somad.gif
That's the problem when your away from the House 12 hours + I seem to be doing a Lot of building recently... You know? Brooders, Incubators and Extra Cages...
rant.gif
About Type of Jap Quail...Personally I love the Tibetan 1s, hard to find around here, Very Dark Brown...

With YOUR Humidity.. TRUST Me on my Set-up with Sponges Vertical with Spacers!! it really works... if I done 1 thing right in whole thing THAT is IT!
thumbsup.gif
You only have to Hook up some Plastic or Rubber hose so you can Fill it without Opening... oh Lucky I have Silicane, SOOO Many Holes in Walls, Trial after Trial, Patch after Patch..
he.gif
lol.png
But I'm Happy Now and Sunday Afternoon I slowly cook 3 doz eggs!

I have just one slight Hiccup is on Day 14 I'll have to place eggs onto Plastic Basket Before Lock-down.. Because there is drop between Rollers and Floor... And yeah well I still got Foggy Windows but still can see ok... I'll still go with those anti fog heaters next incubator project or maybe buy some anti fog spray see what happens...

p.s. if anyone's interested in building their own auto turner... I recently purchased a few of these "ON/OFF Timer Relay Switch" A bit bigger than a Matchbox... Work great!!
Here is Link... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120695842727&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT A little priceyyy (actually paid $12ea not long ago!!), maybe you can find similar on US Ebay?

You know Aprophet you got a pretty good set-up, can hold quite a few eggs inside.... I'm looking forward to taking a pic of mine loaded too.. Maybe I can squeeze 40 in!! Have you Ever Tried Bob-Whites? My friend only gets 15% success rate, Very dissappointing... Good Luck with getting some Jungle Fowls AH I'm sure someone will be happy to exchange with the promise of extra chicks?? Cheers...
