If you guys are interested in the future though, keep me posted. I think it would be great to get together.

Hi Jenny,
I will probably set something up on a week end for those that work outside the home & do everyday processing during the week for those of us available. I am retired.

Oooh, I would love that! We are having car issues right now so I don't know how I would get there. We'll figure something out. Keep us posted!

Hopefully in the near future when the weather cools a bit. With my new pen covers finally being delived & set up yesterday my son & I have alot of work in store moving all the chickens. My mind really looks forward to the task but my body is already screamimg.!!!!!

We really, really want to do some dual-purpose meaties. In fact, I have a bunch of roos that Linda gave me that were "packing peanuts" in an order she got from Ideal earlier this summer. They'll be around 20 weeks in late October, and I'm thinking that'll be a good time to process them. Mostly RIR roosters, but I have a couple of meanies in my own flock that are probably gonna get put in there, as well. They're a couple of months older, but they'll make nice, slow-roasted chicken dinners.

I have absolutely no idea how to process them. I won't have a problem "doing the need" (killing/bleeding out), but I might get a little urpy when it comes time to eviscerate them. Learning from someone who's done it a few times would be really helpful.

I don't know how far away you are but I have a couple of friends that grew up doing it for their dinner on a regular basis & have volunteered to help. October sound good to me too.

We are in El Dorado county, about half way between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. I have family down your way & could kill a couple of birds with 1 stone (no pun intended). Pretty much 95% of my relatives live down in Merced (that's where I'm originally from). I could incorporate all this with a visit to see my sister.

My ex worked on a Foster Farms ranch for 7 years, so I spent much of my young adulthood around meaties. Just didn't process them myself LOL.

Are you the one I suggested check with Bridget Little on the WFBS? I think her 6 week trip may be over by now. I know time flies. I still need a couple Black Minorca started pullets from her too. The young pair I bought from her is doing nicely. I have a friend looking for a White Ameraucana too & bridget has those.
Kirstie Harris (Harris5 on BYC) lives in Colfax I think. Is that near you? She gave me my first BCM hatching eggs of this season & I got a really good hatch with them. She brought them to me at the Stockton Show in January.
I have my workcut out for me reorganizing & moving all the chickens to their new home, but it will be so nice to have them all together & with a purposeful layout plan.....LOL
