My husband loved going there to ask Heather questions. He wasn't really into my birds other than building for me and handing me money and picking up feed. He was always so excited to talk to her so he had some input when I needed something, so until he died I let her be hIS chicken connection.

I had a few baby quail here that I ended up taking to the auction this morning. Took some buckets, but they weren't taking any more items, just animals, sooo. Ends up I have talked to Taylor a few times. HI TAYLOR!! LOL I gave the buckets to his friend. Every time I move something in the garage those darn thing fell on me. Maybe now I can finally start getting rid of a few things. Hard though, because a lot out there is Bill's and I refuse to give up any of his things.

Didn't do great with the quail, but better than I though. Got my usual price for week olds for them, although they were 2 weeks and a little over. Only sold 6 though. I kept the biggest ones. Then I spent the money. Not good. Could have been more feed money. I bought a little spangled hen that I think is an OEGB. The roo went for more than I had with me, so I didn't get him. Plus I end up with roos all the time anyway, so I'm going to put her in with Makayla's black birchen MG and see what I egt, just for the heck of it.

Got home to tke quail out of the bator, only had the 8 when I left, but there are 9 now, so I stuck the wet ne bacl in the bator and hope he calls out some more. LOL I need to check the other incubaors and see what I have going into lockdown. Sure hope I get something worth keeping or selling or trading.

Kim,
I have 11 A & Ms out so far & will leave them alone for the day at least to see if more come out. Are the ones you are selling at 2 weeks old the small Courturnix brown ones?

Yes. Two small hatches and I kept the biggest female.

I took Dakotah out for a few hours to play some games and wait for midnight for the new Gears of War game. Got home and checked on my big whopping 9 chicks that hatched out of like 60 eggs and was going to clean out the hatcher and there's another chick in there. I'm leaving them until I wake up and if there are no more I have more eggs for lockdown, so I'll have to decide by then if I pull them or just add the chicken eggs.

Quail didn't go for much, but I got as much for chicks a coupleof weeks old as they did for full grown. Only sold 6 though.

I won't be auction selling anything in the next month after the last huge disappointment & am going to try to get into the J.S.West sale. I am going to set alot of my growing out cockerels out to free range. I can catch them up later if I need them. I guess they will be a sort of test batch. I would love to free range the chickens & I haven't had any strange dogs arund for a long time so we will see how these do before I let anyone else out.
I have 18 quail out today & have chicken eggs that need to go to lockdown so I moved the quail to the brooder that we put hardware cloth on & left the unhatched eggs in the hatcher tray. I will just add the chicken eggs to it. I had some way late hatchers on the quail last time & want to give everybody a chance.
I went to Ripon yesterday to Ron Miller's house. He is the guy that makes my cages that I found on Craigslist. I came home with a three compartment quail cage with a rollout egg tray. He has more than one setup but I liked this cage best. I am going to try to make a feed tray kind of like the one Jeffrey had on his cage for it.
Good luck on your hatch.

Hi everyone. It's that time again. San Diego Chickens Club is drop shipping another order from the organic food company Modesto Milling. The shipment will get here next week to be distributed at our next meet up on Oct 8th at Lake Murray.

This is an extremely high quality organic food and often times cheaper than the feed store. We have a lot of people that order from LA/ Riverside area that drive down to get it and attend the meet-ups.

Here is the list of prices and feed offered.

It is an additional $2 per bag for shipping.

We have a lot of room on the second pallet if anyone would like to add an order please let me know; PM me, thanks!

I live in San Andreas in Calaveras Co., Our house was built in 1857. I have six polish of various colors who are now six months old. I used the site to get through chickhood and many things but never joined the forum until recently. I also have a 3yr old border collie/australian shepard/queensland heeling mix named dolly, a five year old chihuahua named Diego, and two cats, Panda and Hissel. Dolly has learned to protect our wrap around veranda from Chicken occupation with help from the site. Thank everyone who uses the site. It really helped. When my grandparents were alive (long time farm experience) they got twenty five of the rarest of rare breeds and I got to know them as a child. My grandmother's fondest childhood memories were of watching chickens out in a farm in New England, ND, My mother loved to watch their chickens as a kid on a farm in MN. My Grandparents knowledge is now gone, so having all of you is a gift. I let my nieces 6 and 9 help pick out the chicks and they love those chickens and look forward to their visit. My brother in law built the coop from your list and it has been fantastic. So it passes to the next generation.

Welcome!!!!!! It sounds like you have a lovely life. I too have very fond memories of my grandmother (Vava) always having chickens although instead of being rare her's were always the common most productive dual purpose birds she could buy straight run. She kept all the pullets for eggs & the cockerels provided many tasty dinners & soups for us when they got big enough.
My husband has Border Collie, Mugs, that we bought when he retired 2 years ago & he enjoys working with him out in the pasture. I don't know if he will ever herd the cows but it's nice for my husband to have him to work with.
I have never had Polish but am looking for a Frizzled Polish pullet formy grown daughter to have in her backyard.
So glad you are enjoying your time with us.

Hi all! I'm in Sacramento and am new to chickens. We adopted 3 rescued hens about 2 months ago from Animal Place in Vacaville. I never thought I'd enjoy them so much! They're totally spoiled.
